Enbridge, formerly Consumer's Gas, wants to increase the amount charged to natural gas customers by 40%.
40%!?!
Are they crazy?
You're gonna tell me that their experts did not review the weather predictions and know that this winter would be more demanding for natural gas?
So angry. Maybe this is a rant but it's gonna affect our pocket books.
Shame Enbridge.

O.k. Enbridge, gonna fight you on this.
1. will not use gas barbeque this summer. Will buy pink sticker ~50% off deli chicken~ at my local supermarket and save on summer heating costs.
Fight strategy#2
Rain predicted for Oshawa and area this evening and temperatures rising.
Will lower the thermostat as low as possible and go out for most of the weekend.
So the estimate for natural gas usage will be less for us, and you won't get your full 40% from us

In ON, this is an election year in certain jurisdictions. We have 2 bi-elections in Durham Region, I think. Iam going to lean on those who want to be elected and ask them what they are going to do about Enbridge's cash grab.
Stragegy#3
Ontario Energy Board decides "yay" or "nay" about this 40% request for energy bill increase. Will contact the OEB and tell them to vote "nay".
Fight Strategy#4
Will ask my Ontario Smart Canuck friends to join me.
If you are affected by the ridiculous increase, if you do not have extra cash to "burn", please use some of the above strategies.

Normally, such a household would typically pay roughly $1,000 annually for natural gas.
If approved by the Ontario Energy Board, the rate increase would take effect April 1.

It's all about supply and demand, and right now, because of the cold winter, demand is higher than the supply, which drives the prices up. All the gas companies are in the same situation: they've used up their reserves and have to buy more gas at higher prices on the open market. I'm not sure how you'd expect Enbridge to get around that. It's not as if they could stop supplying gas to the population until they could buy it at a cheaper price.

Large corporations hire and pay handsomely, experts and strategists to predict their next year's needs.
If the Weather Network and the Farmer's Almanac predicted in the summer of 2013, why was Enbridge, a large national company, unable to use their internal and external expertise to do likewise?
Poor planning - we should not have to pay for this!

If the demand was lower & the winter was warmer , I don't think they would have reduced the prices by 40 %..but they are quick to do it the other way round.Quote:

They are paid the big bucks just to plan strategies & mitigate risks like this , there has to be a contingency in place for this stuff, otherwise they are not doing their job properly. Forecasting & Budgeting & Analysis is a major part of their job , which they are clearly not doing properly.
Wouldn't their stores of gas run out eventually anyway and they have to buy more?
What about the years that they bought cheap and we had mild winters.
With taxes it will be a 50% hike. That's way too steep.
I'll be checking out ways to reduce as well.
