I then redeemed 8000 points for a purdys chocolates $20 gift card.
On a $14 spend you were paid to shop.

You also got $2.50/1,000 pts value.

    NICE!

So much to learn. I have just over 30,000 points sitting there. Haven't shopped at Save-on since the stacking stopped. Looks like I will be following this thread for deals now.

the best thing about Save On is that store and manufacturer coupons count towards total spend when earning bonus points for spending x amount - it doesn't show on the register but the receipts show the sub-total before coupons so you really have to know your running total
would they give 2000 points on rain check as well?
    tnx

Good question Live. As we know the best way to make sure your points are awarded when shelves are empty on Airmiles specials is to use "Pre Pay" rather than a rain check where you have to go to CS and get the points entered in a book and someone manually enters them later.

I'm wondering if Save-On allows pre-pay like Safeway does.

That way if there are not enough items on the shelves or in store you can take an item to a cashier and prepay for the others and get the points immediately, for example,

Take 1 Carnation to the cashier but pay for 6. You'd get 2 x 2,000 pts. immediately and get a receipt to pick up the other 5 later.

It might not be an issue at Save-On as, based on my one experience, it seems points can be entered manually at the cash register. Airmiles at Safeway can't be entered this way.

    Under a partial rock! LOL!

When Sobey's bought Safeway Canada the Competition Bureau ordered them to sell 30 of their 330 stores.

Many of the 30 were bought by Save-On including all 7 Safeways on Vancouver Island. Tuesday @ 6:00 PM the last Safeway on Vancouver Island closes to reopen 3 days later as a Save-On. Your area store apparently is not one of the 30.

When I get a chance I'll start looking at flights to see what sort of values we can expect.

The More system seems simpler than Airmiles flights but I haven't checked that closely yet. Some skim reading observations:

    1. No High/Low season

    2. Eligible for all flights. No trying to book and find there's nothing available???

    3. Covers fees/taxes????

If anyone knows for sure chime in as this should be a community thread.

SOF should notice an increase in business because of this thread!! Kick back to OB!!
Let's not forget the Safeway thread yet-you still have to hit 1M before you retire it.

Don't plan on retiring the Safeway thread but my contribution will shrink, mostly to Tommy's dismay, as I won't be able to access the flyer 4 days early anymore.

    Others will carry it on.

Just looking at the UNIGLOBE Travel Voucher.

    $250 for 59,000 pts. = $4.24/1,000 pts.

    or

    $169 +25,000 pts = $81 difference/25,000 = $3.24/1,000 pts.

So the best value in this case is to buy outright with points as it's $4.24 vs $3.24 for the cash + points option.

Small print says you can't pay the booking fee with the voucher and must mention the voucher up front. I have no idea how much booking fees are. It appears it does cover taxes (take that Airmiles!!!!).

Best way to know if you're being robbed before exchanging for a voucher phone uniglobe and pick any trip:

    1. Ask for a price quote first.

    2. Then ask for a price quote with voucher second.

It might be there's booking fee for both that's the same but if the totals for 1 & 2 are different then you'll know whether the difference for you is a waste of time & points getting a voucher.
