And I borrowed this from another site.. it's basically what the other website said...

    Anthuriums Plant Care

    • Remove dead and unsightly foliage and faded or brown flowers.
    • Use a peat moss base.
    • Anthuriums need a high light but not direct sunlight.
    • Water your anthurium thoroughly, but allow it to dry slightly between waterings.
    • Do not over-water the anthuriums as it may cause root damage and yellowing of the leaves.
    • Fertilize the anthurium plant about every other month.
    • Avoid draughts and strong temperature fluctuations.
    • In winter, anthurium plants need a 6 week rest period at a 15°C with little water. This allows the plant to flower profusely again in the following season.

@cath007-Depending on temperatures, watering and care, you may get blooms when you are not expecting them. Did not know what this plant looked like until I passed a floral dept. in grocery store and saw Anthuriums on display. Like coloured calla lilies.

Mom has an orchid plant that is about three years old. February was when the plant had 3-5 blooms (and our house is not tropical warm!). Mom gives the plant a weekly watering and usually turns the plant around too so leaves get sun from the windows across the living room. Plant is green for now and sometimes grows new appendages/leaves or not.

Cath I'm sorry to hear about the sad occasion by which you came to own the plant and I hope it grows big and a beautiful for you for a very long time in memory.

I have an anthurium that is doing extremely well so this is what I'm doing:
    - I repotted it in a large pot. They have huge thick fleshy roots and are usually potted in small pots when they are for sale. If you lift your plant out of its pot and see large roots circling the pot, it means that the plant is 'root bound' and needs desperately a larger pot.
    - I water it once a week making sure not to overwater. Those huge thick fleshy roots are like sponges absorbing and holding water for a long time, so the plant this way has its own reservoir of water and its ok to let the soil dry out between waterings. It is bad if the soil is always moist, because then the roots may rot.
    - It is in a sunny place. It tilts toward the sun, so I usually keep rotating the pot to make the plant grow evenly on all sides.
