Breaking news:
MH17: Ukraine crash site 'yields Russian missile parts'
Fragments of a suspected Russian missile system have been found at the Flight MH17 crash site in Ukraine, investigators in the Netherlands say.
They say the parts, possibly from a Buk surface-to-air system, are "of particular interest" and could help show who was behind the crash.
But they say they have not proved their "causal connection" with the crash.
Ukraine and many Western countries have accused pro-Russian rebels of shooting down the Malaysian Airlines plane, saying they could have used a Buk missile system supplied by Russia.
The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) said in a joint statement with the Dutch Safety Board that the parts had been "secured during a previous recovery mission in eastern Ukraine".
"The parts are of particular interest to the criminal investigation as they can possibly provide more information about who was involved in the crash of MH17. For that reason the JIT further investigates the origin of these parts," the statement said.
"At present the conclusion cannot be drawn that there is a causal connection between the discovered parts and the crash of flight MH17."
The investigators would now enlist the help of weapons experts and forensic specialists to examine the parts, the statement added.
The JIT comprises representatives of the Netherlands, Ukraine, Malaysia, Australia, the UK, US and Russia.
They are meeting in The Hague to discuss a draft report on the causes of the crash, the final version of which is expected to be published by the Dutch Safety Board in October.
The statement comes two weeks after Russia vetoed a draft resolution to set up an international tribunal into the disaster, triggering widespread outrage.

Mortal remains from MH17
25-09-2015
A Dutch team is in the Ukraine for the first hand-over of mortal remains and personal belongings of MH17 victims found after 1 May 2015. The team of eight persons from Defence, the police and Foreign Affairs will also collect remains of the aircraft.
The presumed mortal remains and the material were found in the vicinity of the ‘burned site’ near Hrabove, where flight MH17 came down. The mayors of the surrounding districts collected everything and secured their safety over the past few months. This had also been agreed when the repatriation mission was wound up. Inhabitants of the villages around the disaster area can continue to hand in items at certain points.
The Dutch team is now supervising the proper hand-over of mortal remains, personal property and any available pieces of wreckage. The Dutch embassy in Kiev will take care of transport to Kharkiv. From Kharkiv these items will come to the Netherlands. The remains of the MH17 aircraft will be handed over to the Research Council for Security and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Since the identification process has been largely completed, the ceremonial formalities with which the mortal remains were to be received in the Netherlands have been changed. Staff from the National Forensic Investigation Team will bring the mortal remains on a scheduled flight to Schiphol. Here a formal moment of reflection will be held. Members of the Royal Netherlands Military Police will take care at Schiphol of an appropriate ceremonial reception. That will take place out of sight of the media. The families of the 2 victims who have not yet been identified have been invited to attend this ceremony.

Dutch authorities release the findings of their report into the MH17 plane crash over Ukraine, in which 298 people died. The Dutch Safety Board will present its findings first to victims' families and relatives and then to journalists at the Gilze-Rijen military base in the Netherlands.
Reporters have been shown a partial reconstruction of the plane using actual wreckage from the plane:
Dutch Safety Board chairman Tjibbe Joustra - Dutch investigators found that it was definitely a BUK missile that hit flight MH17. It hit the front of the plane from the left and was launched from somewhere in an area of 320 sq km in Eastern Ukraine, Mr Joustra says.

The official press release:
http://cdn.onderzoeksraad.nl/documen...se-mh17-en.pdf
The Dutch official heading the investigation has dismissed Russian attempts to divert attention from the official investigation, Luke Harding reports.
Tibbe Joustra, the chairman of the DSB, gave a sarcastic quip when asked about a press conference by Almaz-Antei, the Russian manufacturers of the Buk missile.
“It’s always special when people already know that they don’t agree with a report that’s not even published yet,” he told reporters.
Joustra said “almost all operators” were flying over Ukraine because no one thought civil aircraft were at risk at cruising altitude. He said 160 flights travelled over eastern Ukraine after the crash.
Joustra says three crew members were killed in the cockpit when the Buk missile hit. He said the investigations ruled out a bomb on the plane, air-to-air strikes, meteor strikes or aircraft malfunction.
The “high-engergy” fragments from missiles were found in the bodies of crew members killed in the cockpit. Fragments found in the cockpit carried traces of paint linked to Buk missile warheads, another video explained.
The Russian government has challenged the finding that a Buk missile shot down the plane, Joustra confirmed. It said such a conclusion could not be made with certainty. But the DSB rejected the Russia’s objections. Joustra said: “The DSB has extensively studied the comments provided by the Russian Federation,” Joustra said. Its response to Russia’s objections are spelled out in an appendix to the report, he said.
