Air Miles is gradually phasing all the gift cards I used to redeem for. Free meals no more

Now the Cineplex deal is being phased out as of Aug 25! Instead of a movie night for 2 for 200 miles, it's redeem 95 miles for $10. They're trying to sell it as more convenient for the consumer, as opposed to screwing us on the miles.

I've ordered one - does anyone know what the expiration date on them usually are?

when was the last time you redeemed for Cineplex from AM? I have never used that one personally. I only use the few AM I earn now for discounts when cashing out at Metro, which btw I can only go there when they offer a lovely bonus AM deal that I can use.
The old $20.00 certificates that I used to order on line and use for groceries were good for 6 months after date of issue, I am unsure how long these Cineplex GC's would be good for though.

I'm glad I read this! I usually cash out miles for the Gap gift card at Christmas time. Now I see that they don't have any Chapters or clothing store cards anymore. It's bad enough that I only get 1 mile/20 dollars spent and now I won't be able to redeem them for much of anything. When they have a program that lets credit card point users have 1 mile/dollar the point system is going to be based on that. That makes rewards a little out of reach for the regular airmiles collector. We don't have enough sponsors in our town to even get to the gold level (if they have that anymore).

That sucks. I prefer gift cards and have all my miles on dream rewards.

I've just been using my air miles for the $20 Safeway gift certificates. You can use 5 at one time so it's $100 in free groceries. Then when I use a few coupons with it, its not to bad. It seems anything that used to be a great deal is not fallen the way of the dinosaurs.....I'm waiting for the ball to drop at SDM, their points system is still the best bet, but all good things come to an end sooner or later.

I've been putting most of my Air Miles into Dream Rewards, not all of them because I had a few orphaned in the cash rewards category. Once I get up to 95 air miles, I'll cash those in at Sobeys or something, then concentrate on the Dream part. My idea is to get the tickets for Disney next year for free, hopefully that will still be available!

I get most of my miles from my AMEX, but I sure don't get 1 mile per dollar. It's one per $20, or one per $15 for sponsor purchases.

Rexall's August 8 flyer is showing 40 bonus AM when you spend $50 or more (before taxes) on Jamieson Natural source vitamins. In case that helps SCers with gaining some points this weekend...
