Canada providing additional funding to fight Ebola
Canada committed an additional $3.6 million Friday to contain and fight the Ebola outbreak in the West Africa region.
The feds gave $1 million to Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders "to provide adequate isolation and protection measures to reduce and contain the spread of the Ebola virus and to provide care to the affected population."
And $2.6 million was given to the United Nations World Health Organization "to strengthen the field response to the outbreak and mitigate associated threats to health and security."
To date, Canada has donated $5,010,000 to battle the spread of the virus in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Margaret Chan (L) sits next to Keiji Fukuda, WHO's assistant director general for health security, as he addresses the media after a two-day meeting of its emergency committee on Ebola, in Geneva August 8, 2014. West Africa's raging epidemic of Ebola virus is an "extraordinary event" and now constitutes an international health risk, the WHO said on Friday.

There has been a lot of chatter about the ebola weapon being spread by the US.
Just another view on it.

I've always contended it's airborne. If "bodily fluids" spread the disease, then simply talking with them, exchanging spittle floating around in the air IS transmission of bodily fluids.
Otherwise why the hazmat suits? To protect them from what bodily fluids? I highly doubt it's to prevent them from exchanging any other bodily fluids!

If it is airborne it will be devastating. I hope Zmapp is a safe cure and can be mass produced quickly. The best things in life...aren't things

Oh, boy, now in North America...
Ebola in the USA: Texas patient has deadly disease
DALLAS — A patient being treated at a Dallas hospital has tested positive for Ebola, the first case of the disease to be diagnosed in the United States, federal health officials announced Tuesday.
Officials at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital say the unidentified patient is being kept in isolation and that the hospital is following Centers for Disease Control recommendations to keep doctors, staff and patients safe.
The hospital had announced a day earlier that the patient’s symptoms and recent travel indicated a case of Ebola, the virus that has killed more than 3,000 people across West Africa and infected a handful of Americans who have traveled to that region.

This person who is infected left Liberia on Sept. 19 and arrived in the U.S. the following day to visit family in this country. The person, who was not identified, had no symptoms at the time and began showing symptoms four days after arriving in the U.S.
"The bottom line here is that I have no doubt that we will control this importation, or this case of Ebola, so that it does not spread widely in this country," he said. "It is certainly possible that someone who had contact with this individual could develop Ebola in the coming weeks. But there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here."
This is the first time Ebola has been diagnosed in the U.S. and the first time someone was diagnosed with this particular strain outside of Africa, he said. Still, health officials expressed optimism going forward.
"We're stopping it in its tracks in this country," Frieden said.
Health officials are going to work to identify everyone who may have been exposed to this patient, Frieden said. This group, described as a "handful" of people by Frieden, will be watched for three weeks to see if any symptoms emerge. People who traveled on the flight with this man are not in danger because the patient was not symptomatic at the time.
