Anyone have suggestions for products that would easily get rid of the grease on my range hood filter? I've tried vinegar with baking soda and very hot water, scrubbed and scrubbed and it didn't help much. I think perhaps I should try a degreaser...which brand works well? Thanks !

If you can find it, plain ammonia will definitely cut through the grease easily and very inexpensively. It smells awful , though - the area needs to be well ventilated.

Oh trust me, I've tried soaking the filters in hot soapy water, with vinegar, and baking soda. It did nothing. I don't like using chemicals at all, but looks like I have no choice.

WM has the 946 ml bottle for $4.83; there is a 25% bonus size 1.18L that goes for the same price, and about monthly Giant Tiger sells the 2.84L jug for $9.97. It's also at Canadian Tire, etc.

It's a clear, green tinged, low odor liquid with little foaming. It won't affect your bare hands.

It's perfect for getting rid of a film of heat-baked-on grease on the stove. It will take grease stains, even dryer-baked-in ones, out of clothes (I wouldn't use it on printed stuff but on dyed/coloured fabrics it has been fantastic.) It breaks down turmeric (curry, mustard) and blood stains instantly. DH is totally into bacon and burgers and that sort of thing and this stuff lets me clean up the cupboard faces and walls (grease mist) in one pass. If you were to buy something from the thrift shop, and it was just baked with finger grease and cigarette smoke and dust and everything lovely, Mean Green is the product that you'd want to use to clean it up (and it can remove some yellowing too). I just love this stuff, and just between the stove area and the laundry uses it's totally worth it for me to always have it around the house.
Thank you so much for the info. I didn't see it at Wal-Mart the other day, but will check again. This seems like a great product and so glad it will get out turmeric as that is SO hard to get out. Thanks again !

Good Lord, this reminds me of when I was a teenager working at DQ.....they'd send the youngest of us up into the fume hood (was still hot enough in there that sweat ran down your forehead) each night before closing the store with some odd pink solution in a bottle, tell us to spray, and not breathe. Oh those were the days. I hate to think what was in that pink solution but it worked instantly at getting the grease off the stainless steel.

How timely, OP, I too am looking for something to clean my filters. I don't think the previous owners ever did.

One of the best products I've ever used is spray 9. It's available at ct and when it's on sale it's a good price.
