Ridiculous, isn't it? Let's penalize anyone who doesn't want a full bag of potatoes. They're heavy....that's a deterrent in and of itself. A bag of potatoes is often simply too much for many people; it goes bad before being finished. It takes up a significant portion of kitchen real estate; many people have small kitchens, and no room for a whole bag of potatoes.Quote:

Yes, I was sad when sweet potatoes went to the price by weight rather than per potato price too. Seems like a fortune to brighten up a meal with some carotene and flavour.
We have this argument on a regular basis. I buy the 10lb bags bc they are always on sale or I can PM them usually for under $2. We rarely manage to use the whole bag. Personally I would rather throw extra potatoes in the compost bin than give it to a store. He disagrees, throwing away food is just wrong lol
I had a 1920's apartment in Toronto a few years ago that had a potato bin in the kitchen, it was strange. Used it for other storage.Quote:

Not sure about the price of one potato, but a friend and I noticed two weeks ago at Sobeys you could buy 5lb, 10lb, and 20lb bags of potatoes all for the same price each of $4.99
at that price it's worth buying the big bag for the significantly cheaper price take out the amount of potatoes you need then drop the rest of the bag in the food bank bin on the way out
Sadly the food bank here will not take perishables and certainly wont take them if the bag is opened
I normally wait for a 10lb sale but I ran out of potatoes last week and I really needed one for a recipe so I got a big one at NF and it cost me $1.11 :yikes:
As if to taunt me, NF will have the 10lb bag for $1.62 starting Oct 31st.
What really makes me laugh is when they have 4 "baking potatoes" wrapped in foil on a tray for $4.99. Really, how dumb and lazy are people that they can't wrap their own potatoes in foil?
They sell really well too lol
