Black Friday is after rAmerican Thanksgiving. American thanksgiving is on the last thursday in november. It is earlier in Canada I think it is because of the harvest back in olden days. It's colder here so the harvest is earlier

- Black Friday is based on the start of Christmas shopping. Retailers start their gift giving discounts.

Black Friday is an American thing that has migrated to Canada. It's basically another way for retailers to suck more money out of consumers by offering them huge sales to get them buying for Christmas. The frenzy of buy-it-quick sales causes people to spend more. It's nothing but a sales tactic to launch the holiday shopping season off like a cannonball.

But Black Friday does kinda make sense... Boxing Day is Canada's big sale. But it's AFTER Christmas. Revenge gifting? Santa payback for not getting the gift wanted?
Having big sales BEFORE Christmas makes it easier for gift givers. Black Friday is making inroads into Canada because many Canadians go across the border for the big sales.
