Thread: Loblaws $10 bag of Meatballs
-

Has anyone tried these? They're sold at Loblaws banner stores. They're big, bulk frozen bags of meatballs (they also have chicken strips and things like that) that have a $10 sticker on the package. Are they any good? I SUCK at meatballs and was thinking maybe these would be good for holiday appetizers, but I don't want to buy a whole bag and find out that they're gross!

I've had the chicken strips which were okay, but I haven't tried the meatballs at all. I normally buy the big bag of Kirkland meatballs from Costco which are pretty good.

Chantal, I have seen those bags at Freshco and Food Basics too. Haven't tried them. Before buying, ask the store manager if they can be returned if you try them but don't like them.

I mix up the stuff for meatballs in my stand mixer. For about two pounds of beef, I add an egg, about 1/3 cup seasoned bread crumbs, same with bbq sauce. A splash of Worcestershire sauce, a smaller splash of liquid smoke, about 1/2 tsp or less of oregano or Italian seasoning. Roll into balls, bake in the oven and freeze them already cooked. I do a big batch of them at a time, for nights we haven't planned well for supper. A jar of sauce, some cooked noodles, some cooked onions/mushrooms (which are almost always in my fridge) and you've got supper.

I make also, but a bit differently from Zonny. Mine are really simple: 2 lbs ground beef, 1 egg, 2 ends of bread soaked in water or milk (whichever you prefer) crumbled, diced onions, salt and Pepper. And then bake them until done. Cool and freeze. Basic recipe which you can use for any dish including meatball soup.
My friend swears by the ones at M&M`s. I dont like any of the $10 products. I find that the taste and/or quality isnt there. But thats just me.

I've tried them and wasn't impressed - but I do like the M&M meatballs. I watch for them to go on sale.

You can buy the meatballs you want to have a try. Before buy it, you should ask the workers in the loblaws for if it can be returned for you don't like it. Something important you want to know. In a word, the details on the meatballs should be known by you .

Definitely think homemade is the way to go or if in a pinch Costco is great as well. We keep a bag in the freezer for days when I don't want to cook.
