Drove by a closed Target today. My husband said "They weren't here long enough for their sign to leave a dirty impression on the building. It looks like they are just moving in. "

My son (4 years old) keeps telling me to 'call construction workers' and ask them to build a new Target...

I wanted to hit up the last Target in my city today, but I couldn't subject my kids to the horror. Perhaps tomorrow, just for SK makeup.

You would have thought that maybe Target could have learned some lessons from Sam's Club (Walmart). That was another disaster in retailing.

The Sam's Club near us seemed to be here one day & gone the next.

I thought the comment about not being there long enough to leave a dirty impression in the building was a great one.

I think Sam's Club was doing OK in Canada .

Wal Mart ( Sam's Club owner ) wanted Sam's Club to counter Costco in Canada.

But what Sam's Club ended up doing was taking business away from Wal Mart ! ..their own parent company !

There was not much difference between Sam's Club mechandise & prices & WM's own merchandise & prices..except for the membership fees at Sam's Club.

People in Canada couldn't really differentiate between the two, lot of former WM customer's just started shopping at Sam's Club instead. They never managed to lure any of the Costco customer's. They were kind of cannibalising themselves.

Same thing with Futureshop & Best Buy , they kind of became each other's competition..although they were one & the same company.

But SCers have been spotting liquidated Target merchandise in various stores including dollar stores. Never know when you see a familiar Target brand or product! I've only visited the US website about three times this year (to look at some clothing lines esp. when a fashion designer is involved).

The 'big red balls' are now gone from the mall in Bedford NS....because Giant Tiger is opening up in Target's old space this Fall.
