This is incorrect and misleading information. Are you trying to discourage people from donating? I volunteer at many food banks and homeless shelters in my locality. Their most requested items are: milk, bread, eggs, butter, fresh fruit, yogurt and juice. Yes, that's right. Items that require refrigeration and electricity. They also LOVE receiving fresh meat. So I don't know where you heard this ridiculous notion that they only want non-perishable foods. They will welcome everything. Things that people donate most often such as pasta, pasta sauce, canned meat, canned soup...these items are not flying off their shelves as fast as you'd like to think.
So I highly encourage everyone to reach out to your local food banks/homeless shelters/charities/etc. If you're not sure what they will and will not take, a simple phone call will sort that. All food banks are different. Sometimes they may temporarily run out of fridge and deep freezer storage space so needs will change from time to time but it's never permanent. Also, some of them have volunteers who will be delighted to come and pick up your donations. Go forth, people....give away! :top:
