Sipping once, sipping twice, sipping chicken soup with rice . . .
There is a classic little children’s book by Maurice Sendak about the months of the year. It’s entitled “Chicken Soup With Rice”.
The book begins with, “In January, it’s so nice, while slipping on the sliding ice, to sip hot chicken soup with rice. Sipping once, sipping twice, sipping chicken soup with rice” . . . and it continues with a different way to use chicken soup/rice each month of the year. The book ends with, “All seasons of the year are nice for eating chicken soup with rice.”
After shopping at Zehrs yesterday, I’ll be making chicken soup with rice, too, along with a LOT of other recipes that include rice and chicken:
A “limited edition” Uncle Ben’s reusable tub of converted rice is on sale for $5.99 (both 2 kg original white long grain or 1.6 kg whole grain brown).
There is an in-store PC Plus offer of 1,000 points ( = $1.00 value) per tub, so out-of-pocket, it works out to $4.99 per tub.
Inside each tub, there is $10.00 worth of coupons:
2 x $1.00 Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express Rice (Entrée, Sides, Risotto 240g – 250g). Expires December 31, 2015
2 x $4.00 off any one pack of chicken (fresh, frozen, pre-cooked or rotisserie), any size, any weight. Expires December 31, 2015
Yes, you read that $4.00 coupon correctly and there are 2 of them in each tub of rice! :excited:
What a deal! Invest $5.00 in a large tub of rice and get $8.00 worth of chicken FREE! (Plus, of course, the 2 x $1.00 Uncle Ben’s Bistro Express Rice coupons) Yes, I stocked up!
I wonder how many ways there are to cook rice and chicken? ;)
