Canada is getting a replacement to Target.
From Japan. Muji.
They sell clothing, linens, stationary and storage systems.
They will open 1 store per year, here. They are in Toronto now.
Yorkdale will open in 2016.
They are looking at Vancouver nextThis thread is currently associated with: Target

it won't replace target unless they plan on going nation wide fairly quickly (and not just in the top handful of big markets like ikea has)
When life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

Muji has already opened a location in downtown Toronto. The stationary is quite cheap but otherwise everything is not reasonably priced like socks, scarves, household items... Or at least not as cheap as Walmart or Target. Muji is a different store from Target. Muji focuses on items that are neutral coloured, simple. Muji does very well in other countries, I don't see Muji being located anywhere but big cities like Toronto, Vancouver

Never heard of them. Probably won't go nationwide.

I can't say that I won't shop there. I'd need to go to an actual store to decide, but from the info & pics I've seen I don't think its my type of store. Besides I highly doubt it will come to my city.
It definitely can't replace my much beloved Target. I'll be heading across the border for my fix. LolLast edited by bargain_hunter_lola; Tue, Jan 27th, 2015 at 07:35 AM.

Ah, Uniqlo is not Muji-must have missed any connection. But yesterday's Star article CONFIRMED that Uniqlo will open at the Toronto Eaton Centre as well as Yorkdale. Think TEC will get the volumes/sales more easily due to have so many students and GO commuters via Union coming through the core!
Vancouver is likely on track for its Uniqlo store another year. Though many probably thought Vancouver would be the first place to put a Uniqlo, it's not.
Muji got some free publicity in the Uniqlo article about not spending on advertising. PR!
http://www.thestar.com/business/2015...get-flees.html
The seemingly eclectic product mix isn’t haphazard – they are everyday items designed to be simple, attractive and affordable.
Aside from putting Muji on the hoarding while the store was under construction; a countdown on the brand’s Facebook page; a small event that included media, and a free giveaway on opening day, Muji did not advertise.

The Uniqlo brand is sort of like H&M in apparel. It has an Ines de la Fressange capsule designer collection (former Chanel model of the 80s is now a designer). The brand sponsors two of the men playing in the Australian Open. http://www.uniqlo.com/us/
We're expecting great things from this brand!
(Muji is inside The Atrium on Bay, the shopping complex directly north of the TEC, so its proximity will mean J-brand shoppers will have both stores close by-expect to see H&M in the TEC to duke it out with Uniqlo over designer capsule collections. Muji store faces the TEC so that's a major retail location. OLG prize claim office is also down the street, if you have a big winning lottery ticket and need to go shopping!)Last edited by Ciel; Tue, Jan 27th, 2015 at 11:15 PM.

We're getting a Marshall's in Windsor very soon. I think it opens in February. That will be our new Target. (actually it's across the street from Target) I haven't heard if there are already any Marshall's in Ontario but we'll see how well this one goes .
