I got my blackberries out from loblaws for an evening smoothie and found a little green inch worm on one. I thought he was dead but splashing him with water revealed he's more lazy than dead. While I find a little gross my 6 year old is beyond thrilled. She wants to keep it as a pet. I am wondering what does one even do when you find something like this in your food? Should I tell loblaws?I am also wondering what the thing is, like what kinda bug will it eventually be? So its a brag for my daughter and an unbrag for me.

you are supposed to wash the fruit anyways. can happen. i had brussel sprouts from costco ones and in these sprouts were lots of tiny green things or rasperries from walmart i had not long ago...with green worm, that has nothing to do with the store.... it's not the stores fault. some people are really complaining about everything.

We pick a lot of blackberries and those little green guys are often in wild blackberries - I have to keep a keen eye when we're eating and picking! I believe they are a kind of moth

I would just throw it away, it happens in nature!

Just wash your produce carefully with warm water and use it. This isn't an unusual problem. It's fruit....you will find bugs and other creepy crawlies on them/inside the packaging. If I complained to the stores every time I found a bug in my produce, I would have nothing to eat. I don't think this warrants a complaint to Loblaws. Enjoy your blackberries!

Just a little extra protein!
I should have added that I am especially careful with grapes. I found a Black Widow spider in a batch once. So after I rinse them, I store them in a sealed container in the fridge.Last edited by wolfwoman; Tue, Feb 10th, 2015 at 11:48 AM.

Yep, you just showed why it's important to rinse/wash our produce.
It's nothing harmful, so no need to worry

At No Frills once, I found a frog...YES, a FROG in one of the iceberg lettuce plastic bags. I showed it to the produce guy...he took the frog out and placed the lettuce in a different bag, then it went back on the shelf. No biggie!
I don't understand why we panic when we find bugs in our produce. These things have been out growing in nature, where bugs and worms and rodents and who knows what else has been crawling all over them...it's normal. And there's no way to prevent them from getting into the packaging. That would be impossible.Shop online often? Join ebates.ca to get cashback on your purchases! I have earned over $230 to date.

Love your daughter's reaction I'm with you. I don't like finding bugs in anything but obviously I know it can happen.

It's in inchworm. (Anyone who actually knows correct me if I'm wrong). We find them all the time in our raspberry garden.
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.
