I used checkout 51 on the weekend no problem...but today it is asking me to scan the bar code of my Eggo's. Is this something new or just something for this product?
Anyone have any information? This thread is currently associated with: Kellogg's

I read in another forum they are cutting down on fraud - people buy everything on the list, scan the receipt, claim it and return it the items back. My gf works at WM and she says Customer Service sees this alot. Maybe they want to make sure you keep the item and not return it,

Hmmm... But scanning the bar code before returning it is easily done. It is only an inconvenience for me because I sometimes take the receipts to work and upload them on break...and unfortunately I didn't take the eggos to work with me.

If they require us to scan the barcode, it won't stop the fraudsters from scanning them at the store though.

The thing is with the fluffy eggo it doesn't say that on the receipt, it just says eggo waffles. Maybe that's why

THIS is more likely why. You can return things at any time so that makes no sense. You will notice certain things like, if you purchase Huggies Little Movers or Little Snugglers at SDM, both just say Huggies Diapers on the receipt, no UPC. They happen to be on Snap, $2 back for Little Movers, $1 back for Huggies Diapers. I bought, and claimed, one Huggies Little Movers, and one Huggies Diapers, but really how do they know, and aren't they just taking my word for it in that case?

Isn't there normally a SKU on the receipt? I always figured that's what was read, rather than the name of the item.

Maybe your receipt only shows (limited) product description and no UPC?
I notice I don't get hassles when I buy from Loblaws, NF, RCSS where the UPC appears alongside the product.
But when I buy from Metro or SDM and product description misses that key word, I sometimes have to prove I purchased the right item.

There's a couple of things:
as folks point out, it's very easy to purchase a non-specified product and get cash back however the other item is that scanning the item is how almost all the rebate apps work in the US so I think it will eventually be the norm for those apps here as well
