Having to buy more just to get free shipping at Walmart discourages me from ordering online from them period. My local Walmarts are horrible for returning stuff purchased at the actual store, always insisting I exchange it instead of a refund, and returning online stuff takes forever because the staff can't figure out how to process an online return or the item isn't in the store's system.

I have seen these boxes in Walmart's here in the GTA area and wondered about them. Also I see these at RCSS so they must be ready to roll out a similar programme.

I usually order twice a month, usually $30-35 each time. That would have been a better number. At $50, it will be rare that I order.

I only just discovered the joy of online shopping, but sadly with a max order of 50.00 to get free shipping I wont be able to do that. 25.00 would have been more doable as I am really only looking for those awesome clearance deals.

The Canada Post in my neighbourhood always has long line-up's and slow service. Picking up a package there is not appealing to me at all. Plus, it's not all that close.

Looks like WM was only offering free shipping to built up their customer base for online shopping ( introductory offer ) and to put other local businesses , & even big shots like Target et al out of business.
They were clearly losing money on the free shipping, but were absorbing these losses delibrately ( due to their deep pockets )..just to achieve the above 2 , now that its done ..the free shipping is gone.
Eventually they will have Amazon like Prime membership & yearly annual fees etc for their online shopping ..just a matter of time..wouldn't be surprised it happens as early as a couple of years

I maybe used to do $ 15 - $ 20 maybe at a time. That too bcoz , I hate shopping inside my local WM . I can never find stuff there..its all over the place.
Its not even that its OOS , the staff is too lazy to stock it properly. They will have tons back in the store back room , but thwy won't bother to get it for you or even check their computer for stock.
Extremely unhelpful & rude staff..but don't really blame them , they get treated like crap by WM & get paid slave wages

when i spotted the minimum that pretty much just killed it.. i get they have to charge something for shipping, they gotta weed out those $5-10$ orders or people doing many small orders.. that had to happen at some point but to make the minimum $50? its a tad steep if you asked me considering amazon's minimum is $25
i also would not be surprised if target leaving had a small part to do with this...When life hands you Edward Cullen...throw him back and demand Eric Northman....

I know its a common practice with other retailers, but now it will arrive at WM too, before that it wasn't there.
If there is a $ 5 item online on sale or clearance..at WM.
Someone just wants to buy just 1 , but decides to buy 10 just for the $ 50 Free shipping , & then returns 9 later on in store.
Guess what now its OOS online & you can't buy it , due to the common practice ..so the person who can't buy it now does care.
But when there was Free shipping without a threshold , this person would have not done that & just bought one ..instead of 10.
And maybe other 9 customers, who each also wanted just 1 & wanted to order online, & do care , would have got them too ..instead of OOS message.
I bet from now onwards you will see more & faster ,OOS online at WM than before for lot of items..they were not that good to begin with..now it will be worse

I don't think it has anything to do with Target leaving, they never shipped online and given their losses, they were never a competitor to Walmart
Walmart has changed it due to high postage rates and people who order $1 orders hoping to get a free sample/item with their order (I have heard of people making 100 of these orders in one weekend). They have to be losing money paying $5+ expedited mail (even with their bulk discount) on 33c packs of noodles.
$50 is too steep for me, I rarely order from them online anyway, I have 3 within 20 mins of me and one by a GO station that I can get off, shop and carry on home. They should have set it at $35 like the US or $25 like Amazon.
