I won't be cooking for any 5 star restaurant anytime soon but I enjoy cooking. My mother doesn't really like to cook, so growing up (and even today) it's been basic meals - meat and potatoes. I'll at least try a new recipe out for something different.

OP, Youtube has been a great resource for cooking and trying new recipes.
Here's Auntie Fee and her culinary skills. She's been on Steve Harvey's show, Jimmy Kimmel's show and TMZ. Apologies for her colourful language

update: new video from Jimmy Kimmel, that has bleeps

I can cook pretty good, but I'm surely not a chef.

oh wow! Colourful is one thing, she is downright rude! That seems unnecessary to be using that much profanity when you are demonstrating cooking, good for a laugh but not much else.

Her son is the camera man. He makes her angry on video so it is more entertaining. She has an interesting past as well.

What did you think about the shrimp?

I can drop an F bomb with the best of them but Auntie Fee crosses the line for me, couldn't finish the video, too annoying.Crass very crass. I don't think pan frying shrimp is a skill.
I have a lot of skill in the kitchen, and I love to cook for people and try different cultures and cuisines.I started reading recipe books when I was about 13 just because technique and recipes intrigued me!

Mom is an excellent cook and I am learning from her. Not a star chef but love cooking and baking. In fact, I made pumpkin spice muffin for breakfast, care to join me?

I'm somewhere in the middle. Lots of what I cook/bake tastes really good but I'm a bit of a picky eater, and I like simple meals so I definitely won't be a 5 star chef making fancy things anytime soon. I like experimenting with different recipes, and putting my own little twists on them.

I've always enjoyed cooking and when I was doing it for years for my family there were many large style spreads, always with yummy desserts........I can throw together comfort food dishes with ease. Not really a stickler for presentation but most things do look appetizing, just not restaurant or magazine picture perfect.

More and more I find I am willing to learn by experimenting with foods that I was not raised eating. Some recipes have been refreshing surprises and others have been a lesson learned. I've been on a self imposed kitchen sabbatical for about a month ( forcing young adults and capable spouse here to fend for themselves ) so cooking for one ( with gf restriction) is not as much of a burden as it was prior.

DH famous last words ( well his Dad's really, but he loves to say it too ) if I would ask how he likes the meal. He'd reply
" it'll make a turd of some kind " . Any wonder I took the sabbatical?

    ha ha ha

What an interesting thread! I love cooking and I came from a multicultural country where most of the recipies made are a mix of different cuisines. Living here in Canada, I've also been experimenting with different cuisines, though our favourite is Italian. And I prefer to cook from scratch. Recently, I started my teeny buiseness baking cakes for my neighbours and their friends. Making money off of an enjoyable job is just as good as couponing.

I'm a good home cook, no desire to be chef-y.

Love experimenting - and very glad my family gives anything and everything a try.
