I was just informed that I was denied a $22,000/yr +$5,000 scholarship that I required to do my Ph.D. This in the middle of trying to write my Master's thesis, a behemoth of a paper that is taking forever to accomplish.
Now, to see what I can do....yikes...

Don't take this as a direct reflection of your qualifications. I got rejected for quite a few that I felt more deserving for, later I learned that some I didn't receive because I had too much potential. Sometimes they give out scholarships to people with less promising grades just to encourage them to keep pursuing their education instead of offering one to someone who has worked harder to earn them. Or if they believe you have some means of paying for or may be capable of paying for your education they will choose someone else over you (in my case I had a part time job that I listed on some applications so my application was considered less compared to other students who didn't hold down a job while in school). I can see these factors playing a part in bursaries but all too often these things play a part in scholarships too (which isn't fair at all). They also consider minorities more which of course isn't always fair.
So if you are feeling down or less worthy, remind yourself that sometimes the system just sucks

And, after e-mailing the professor, I have found out that he does not have enough funding to take me on as a student either. What a load of crappy Mondays I have experienced.
So, after my Master's degree comes a void of unknown

Just with a Master's degree, you are already better off than 80-90 % of the population.
Most people are unable to finish even undergrad university and even college or high school , due to various personal or financial reasons .
you can easily get a very good job with your Master's..you can always complete your Ph.D later on if you want either PT or FT or even with some other university/professor
