Women start out as happy young adults but by midlife wind up the sadder sex, says a new study on satisfaction related to financial circumstances and family life, which past research has shown play a significant role in well-being and happiness.

I can totally see this! I certainly hope my dh and I keep things together - as in the long run - I think we'll be much happier together than apart - even if we have some bumps in the road...

Personally I dont take everything in on these studies, just because there only studies of particular people in particular situations doesnt mean that Im going to be unhappy midlife because im a woman kwim?
Its the same thing with childrens studies, a lot of them are the same kind of situation.

I really hate to stereotype on things like this, I know a lot of women midlife who are very happy, as do I know men the same way, but in the same breath there are also lots of men and women unhappy in midlife. I guess its just fate almost or the way the cards are dealt.


Personally with the financials ill be much happier in mid life when our house is paid off hahah!

If we can adopt the same methods that our older parents used in the past, there is no reason why couples should stay together and be happier. My parents have been going over 46yrs now and I hope to emulate that.

Everyone argues, but the big D word is not always the answer.

I am thinking that maybe these women when they were young and naive, gave up their dreams for their husbands, and now that they are older, possibly they have some regrets...

Are they sure about that idea? I know women have menopause, and it's not a nice thing. I've been told stories, most memorably by a woman I knew who admitted she "put her husband through 11 years of hell"... and I certainly won't challenge the changes that women face during middle age.

But men also have something similar - it's called andropause. We get just as screwed up by it as you ladies. It's not a myth, and it's not just midlife crisis, its a crisis of physical and social self, its an established psychological and physiological upheaval, men just aren't supposed to talk about it or behave differently. Especially not discuss weakness with other men. And the support for men experiencing it is next to zero. Sometimes if you're lucky a doctor will give you testosterone supplements.

I'm not sure, but I think I may be entering it myself. Honestly, some days are total mental hell. But I try to keep it together, keep it inside. I can't honestly say that I'm happier than women of my same age. I'm lucky that the Mrs. is relatively tolerant of me (LOL). Having her keeps me going through it.

That's a pretty narrow study upon which to make such a sweeping conclusion. I don't think you can call one sex or age group "happier" just based on whether or not they have met their financial aspirations.

Personally, I have met very few happy young women and very few unhappy older women, regardless of their finances.

But you don't know those people's financial situation, and in all honesty, money does seem to split up a lot of people.

Either she is out buying shoes and bags, and he is drinking and gambling. Young women might be happy, that is because they are not thinking of retirement right now, once that sets in, it becomes a different story

Hmm.. I don't know how accurate the study is. Perhaps they should do it again.
Teen girls/young women.... Holy yikes! Speaking in general terms of course they are to busy worried about their own self image then to be happy with anything going on around them.
