At my job, I'm only busy when there's a customer in the store. On many occasions my boss has come in and said he wanted my job (I was reading.)
I've been fortunate that the jobs I've had left me pretty much alone in an office, or working from home, so no real bosses there...I did work at Eatons and Sears here in my younger years and enjoyed the work and the people I worked with (customer service then locked in with the money), so no problems, we were pretty much left alone.
Of course now...since every day is Saturday, no bosses in sight!!
When I was teaching, that was just not a possibility - especially teaching primary grades!
Back in the day, between years at university, I worked at a mental hospital, doing summer relief. I would go to different departments for a week or two each, just as a fill-in.
For two weeks one summer, I was in the Doctor's medical library, deep in the basement of the hospital - and it was dead there; it was rare that docs came in. For the first few days, I read all the medical journals and stuff - then another staff member said if I had any hobbies, I should just bring them to do - so I pretty much did cross-stitching all those days. So that was really not working, and getting paid very well for it!
That went totally against any work ethic I had, but it just was what it was...
I've been caught a few times, mostly only get a leer so I get busy until he's gone.
I've did several part time jobs in my teens and usually I take breaks by taking loooonger bathroom trips and I still got the work done :)
I have the best boss on the planet. If I'm on SC or reading the dailymail and my boss has come by and looked at my screen, I have never tried to hide it from her. She just looks and carries on. There are days she'll ask me what's on sale or any coupons for ...??? Nope, no consequences for me.
Well, Mister Danger, in a past job, it wasn't the boss, it was some self entitled coworkers. These coworkers assumed they were in charge. They spent a lot of time doing MWA ->Management by Walking Around. If they ever said anything to me about my work, I would ask them, How do you find the time? You are obviously very busy trying to get your work done. How can you possibly have time to do your work and check mine. And, did you get a promotion to manager/director/vice president?
BTW, dan, I absolutely LOVE Blondie!
