I'm hoping my No Frills isn't on the list. We already lost one and the next closest one is in a really busy part that I like to avoid because the parking lot is impossible.

Unfortunate that so many people will be out of jobs. Hope some stores can absorb those staff members.

They said that they were targeting underperforming stores. So if your No Frills is a very popular store, ususally busy and doing great, it will probably be o.k. IMHO.

I've wondered how the Hamilton one at Barton & Nash has been doing. There are two Fortino's stores not too far away from there.

I thought so too, seylz. Feel bad for the staff. I haven't shopped there in ages, whereas I used to shop there all the time. Their sales have lacked luster and their points simply don't compel me to shop there anymore. Tax-free days are only on Saturdays now, which I do not like. I think they went in over their heads when they bought Shoppers.

I don't think they went in over their heads? You think this is because they bought shoppers they are forced to close these other stores for what reason? This was probably part of their business plan the entire time. They are dumping dead weight.

Just saying, after seeing target screw up so badly, I think Loblaws has a better idea what they are doing.

I think this is strategic. Loblaws 2nd quarter made money. Shoppers 2nd quarter earnings made money.
I think they are positioning themselves to compete better with Walmart.

Seems like the stores in smaller towns (that don't make them much $) are closing.....they are herding people to the bigger cities : ( which is not right/fair.

In the meantime, Loblaws are building new "City Markets" all over GVA.... one is being built in a mall near me due to open before Christmas.

Some Loblaws stores in small towns do very, very well. Some small towns are in tourist areas and the seasonal residents like to go to the Loblaws/Metro/Sobeys type stores when they are in town

I have to agree we have a No Frills here and we are a small town but I highly doubt it will end up on the closing list. In the summer you cannot get in the parking lot on a weekend and the majority of the community shops there as our only other option is Sobey's and a large majority of our town cannot afford Sobey's.

I am hoping neither close but Newmarket and Aurora RCSS are only 10 minutes apart and lately Newmarket has gone downhill to the point where I did email and ask if they were closing Newmarket as they never had any stock or staff (No Tax Saturday 10 am with one cashier). But even as most mentioned look how close some stores are especially now with SDM in the mix. In Aurora SDM is 2 minutes down the road for RCSS and RCSS has a full pharmacy that is always busy.

In all honesty we can all speculate all we want but at the end of the day there will be shock once the list is released.

I saw one store put their click and collect parking spots in their parking lot. I asked the employees. They said that in August customers can order on line, pay, drive up to the red parking spot and their groceries will be brought out to them. I am assuming that, that store will stay open.
