Yes, true. 16 is the age when a lot of rights are granted to a child. Last year my daughter left with a boy and moved provinces. I thought I could stop it (because I was worried about her and didn't want her too far away for me to help in an emergency). I contacted child protective services, or whatever they're called, and the very sympathetic lady (she really was, that's not sarcasm) told me they have no mandate for children 16 and older. Nothing I could do.
Long story short, she's home now and in grade 12, doing well.
I still have to convince her to vote though, even if it's for Elizabeth May.
