@SassyAshley I'm guessing you are tinkering with your NEW furniture.
Hey all,
They say things happen for a reason and I am thankful for last minute plans for Jaden getting a ride to football with my MIL CHANGED. MIL is a horrible driver and I cringe everytime I need to get a ride or she takes the kids out because I can't tell you how many times she almost side swiped a vehicle or a few times a tractor trailer. Anyways MIL either fell asleep or zoned out and crossed over the highway and rolled her car, it's a write off. The drivers side is obviously banged up BUT the passenger side was totally mangled and if Jaden would have been the passenger I don't even want to imagine what the outcome would have been. MIL is fine but the car not so much. She has admitted to the police officer that she fell asleep. Dh, FIl and I are all hoping they pull her license not nice to wish but it would be the best thing for everyone on the road.
On a more positive note I canned 16x 500ml jars of pears in syrup and have 8 bags of sliced pears in the freezer for baking.
I still have another day's worth of pears to can and/or freeze.
I am quickly filing up the chest freezer which is good BUT will be in trouble if dh get's a moose...
FIL brought me over some yellow & green beans this am which was a nice surprise, the beans are in the freezer - 5 bags in total for winter eating, I'm the only 1 who eats beans so that's good. Each package has enough beans for 3 meals for me.
So tomorrow will be my apple day and if time permits tomatoes as well.
Feeling like a squirrel these days (haha) but feeling good about being productive.
Wishing everyone a wonderful evening.
DH, FIL and some male relatives are gone on a UTV (side by side) trip so I won't be picking up socks in the am (haha).
OH MY GOODNESS, J&C!!! You're SO right about things happening for a reason and thank God your son wasn't in that car!!! Sorry to hear about your MIL, however; speaking as someone who's likely around her age, independence is so important to us and it's the one thing I missed so much during my convalescence. It's just not the same having our Hubbies drive us, no matter how patient they are with us roaming around the shops and stores. However, in her case, I can absolutely understand how you feel; this could have really hurt her physically and then everyone would have wished it could have been prevented.
As for squirreling away for the winter, lol...good for YOU!!! Enjoy the process as well as the rewards! You're quite amazing!! :notworthy:
Oh thank god your son wasn't with her! Glad she's ok.

Wow Nancy! So glad Jaden wasn`t in the car. It`s not nice to lose your independence but sometimes it`s for the best. I couldn`t drive once for 6 months because of an arthritis flareup. Now I hope and pray it doesn`t happen again because hubby can`t drive due to his eyesight.
J&C, omg! I'm so glad to hear that no one was hurt in this accident! Jaden AND your mil had a guardian angel looking after them! I fell asleep at the wheel a couple of years ago while driving on the 401- our 4 lane (or6) highway. I woke up as I headed into the median heading for the other set of lanes. DH can't understand how I didn't flip the car.
After an incident when I was in the car with my mother driving, I had to report to my mother's dr. Who
Then removed her licence. She was devistated, but, honestly, she was headed towards an accident that might have hurt her or someone else. A woman in our town had actually killed a 16 year old 2 weeks before when she stepped on the gas instead of the break pulling into a parking space. It was then that I knew I had to report her to the dr. She never really forgave me, though.
Good Morning All,
Nancy yes things do happen for a reason, so glad everyone is okay. Same thing happened to my bro a number of years ago and luckily he did not have his gf with him or it would have been very different. My bro some how slipped into the back seat as the car rolled and that is what saved him as I only saw photos but the car no longer looked like a car and they warned my dad you will not recognize it as a car.
Good new I have my furniture, bad news I completely LOST IT at the driver. Our delivery window was 9 am to 1 pm, Mom needed to leave for work at 12:30 so I head home around 12:15 as they are not there. They just phoned Mom and said they were here but they think they were at the wrong address, the address they gave her was 10 minutes from our house so she gave them directions to our house form there. Half an hour later they phone again telling me their GPS will not pick up our address are we in Toronto or North York um neither. So after about 20 minutes on the phone they said their GPS still would not pick up our address but they would see what they could do, okay I am getting mad they have 7 minutes to get here and as more and more times passes I wonder are they in Toronto looking for me. I will admit at this time all I can think is there are no where close to where I am and they are going to cancel my delivery and who knows when they will move it too, we both have this weekend off and may have no furniture. Finally like 10 after 2 a truck pulls into our parking lot (oh don't get excited it is not over yet) I get a phone call please come out we cannot find you. I go outside and there is a guy wondering around I say "I think your looking for me" he says "Oh don't mind me we are lost" I say again louder "You are looking for me" he says "No we are in the wrong place" I then say "Are you from Ikea" he says "Yes but we are in the wrong place" I say again "You are you looking for me". They then get in the back of their truck and in there for like 20 minutes before one comes and asks me for a copy of my bill which I do not have printed off it is on my phone, they ask me if I will go print it, um no I shut down my laptop and it takes me printer like 10 minutes to start up and I NEED to get back to work. I show him my order tell him my last name, he leaves again, 10 minutes later we cannot find how do you spell your last name (really you looked at it on my phone and spelled it out for yourself) and back he goes. Finally they find it and bring it to the door and here is where the fight starts. He asks where we want it and I explain shelves basement, bed and dresser upstairs, oh no ma'am we cannot do that you have to pick one room for all furniture so either we put it all in the basement or all upstairs, okay I am getting mad I admit it but I am trying to stay calm but it isn't working. What do you mean you cannot last time Ikea delivered we purchased furniture for ALL 3 FLOORS and they put each item on the correct level for me, oh no ma'am a new law (yes he said law) has been passed and for your safety we are no longer allowed to do that you pick one place and we put everything there and you move it to where you need it. Okay I lose it at this point and my rant went something along these lines "I spoke with Ikea and asked would stairs be an issue, they said no, I said would it be an issue that half needs to be in the basement and half goes upstairs, again no, I paid $129 for you to deliver this because I know I cannot lift these boxes, I could have borrowed and truck and picked up but I KNEW I could not get them up and down the stairs, that is why you are here" his response back oh they must not know the law (yes he used the word law again) is new I think September 1st. I admit at this point I am yelling and one neighbour did come out to see what was going on, I did not care I just look at him and say "You are over an hour late, I told my boss at the latest I would be back by 2 it is now well past 2:30 and you are telling me you are going to put everyone in one place and I have to move it, if this is going to be an issue tell me know and you can both stand here well I call Ikea." Well as soon as I said that his tune totally changed. He then says "If you look at the boxes and tell me which are which I will put them anywhere you want them but you need to stop shouting at me". Okay I admit I was yelling. So we start sorting through the boxes and he takes them where ever I want them, but there are 2 guys one has gone back and is sitting in the truck well the other does all the work. I feel bad for him but hey that is between you two. Finally when he is down to 2 boxes the other guy comes and takes them (just going to say they were the 2 light boxes even I could have lifted). So I go and check everything and sure enough the one guy put everything down nicely stacked the other 2 just dropped the boxes in the middle of hallway they are gone so I have to move them as I cannot access my room. Get that done grab my stuff and go to leave and there they are sitting in our parking lot, okay I am not leaving yet. Finally they leave I go get in my car and they are sitting at the end of the road, okay guess I am not leaving yet so I wait again. Finally they pull off the road but I see them sitting on the side of the road around the corner, okay I do not like this I am going to loop back, when I do they are gone. Needless to say there will be am email going regarding the delivery right after I phone Ikea today to confirm there is no law (which I already know there is not but I want to prove my point). We have furniture and tomorrow will be build day, we have a plan so I am happy now we just need to execute it which will be the issue.
On a much nicer note last night I finished one of Mom's Christmas presents, it is going to be a crocheted Christmas. As I mentioned my leadership coach said I needed something for me well knitting and crocheting is that thing and I am a little obsessed so I think everyone will be getting homemade gifts. As well I cleaned the side tables I bought earlier this week. Only one is in my room right as the other will not fit and is in the guest room but both have been cleaned. Now I just have to figure out what of my current furniture is staying and what will be go, sadly I think even a few things I had hoped to keep will have to go as I just will not have room. I need to look at function over want but we will see once I start moving stuff around.
Well better get back to today, I had to move my leadership coaching to this afternoon plus I am off tomorrow so today could be fun. Have a great day everyone.
^^ sorry @SassyAshley I just cannot get through that text, space it out more next time. I find it hurts my eyes when the sentences are all strung together, sorry maybe just my old eyes.
Good morning all, first thing is WOW! close call @jasperandchar ....so glad the end result was only damage to her car and slight injury for her.
I love how many foods you are processing, it is a great feeling when it is all frozen or packed away in jars, congrats!
Not much going on here today, but DD is ticked that her Univ is actually having classes today and Friday?? They usually start after the long weekend, not sure why it is different this year?
Good morning! Excited to get this work day out of the way! Double date night tonight with my sister and her husband. We are going to the casino for dinner (free with comps) a bit of black jack :) and a show (Kevin James- free comp tickets :) ) Grandma is babysitting :)
Good morning!
FBMama - Kevin James is so funny, enjoy your evening out!
J&C - so glad your MIL is okay, so scary!
It's just awesome that you are prepping so much food!
When I was a kid, mom canned SO much - there were six of us, after all.
My fave was crab apples - I've never tasted anything like them since then. She also did peaches and pears, all kinds of pickles and beets, and made sauerkraut (oh, I miss that!), plus a variety of jams and jellies (nanking cherry jelly was my fave - I had the good fortune to make it a few times when we were living where we had a bush, as did the neighbours, so I could pick enough of them).
Sigh!
Well, on with the day. Did another cabbage yesterday, have two more to blanch to get the leaves in the freezer.
Making veggie soup for supper, so will be able to use some of the cabbage ends in that.
Have a great day, everyone!
jasper -so glad your mom is okay
sassy -nice that you got yourself some new furniture-I have malm dressers in a spare room and they are well built
-well may lose a bit of weight -still running to toilet -I have a 48hour virus I guess -so just had toast for breakfast with a tiny bit of jam and a tea (yesterday I was a bit cold chills in the late part of the day it has past)
-hopefully I feel better on Friday -I watch "ashlyn" and sat at 5.00 p.m my grown kids are getting together at our house to celebrate my daughter's birthday -we are getting takeout for our grown kids a treat
Good morning, everyone. :)
Had a stressful night chatting with a friend. Long story short(er), my friend gave up a successful career to move back home to take care of an ailing parent (Alzheimers). 15yrs later, the parent is gone (2 yrs now) and now the siblings (who never contributed financially to her care and rarely visited) are demanding their share of the estate (only thing left is the house where my friend is living). My friend has spent all savings taking care of the parent and the house (new roof, driveway, etc). Yesterday, one of the siblings came by with boxes to help my friend start packing up the house to get ready to sell it. Total surprise to my friend.
I can't believe family members would behave like a pack of jackals trying to snatch a piece of prey. :(
On the plus side, it's sunny, the brats are happy, so I should be too. ;)
Been working on a project for bff's b-day (it's next week & I'm still not finished). If I ever do finish it, I'll post a pic. I'm really out of my element with this project (what was I thinking?!). Better get back to it.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day. :)
Andit it is horrible the sides of people that come out after all is said and done with no consideration for others.
Wow Nancy, those close calls are scary, I am glad it didn't end up worse than it did.
Sassy, what can I say, if it is not going to go well it always seems to be you that gets the crappy end of the stick!
A very busy week here, covering some holidays for a gal at work so worked a ton this week. So much for retirement!! There is a definite fall chill in the air here, went down to 2 last night and a really cold rainy forecast for the weekend, but like true Albertans we will be ending our last long weekend of the summer at the cabin in the water taking our dock and boat lift out of the water. making a pot of chili for all the helpers that come!!
Feeling kind of nostalgic today, my last of four kids starts grade 12 today, the years have flown by. we went through the tote of back to school clothes I had purchased at 70% off last February and he asked me if I could still find clothing deals for him even when he is off to University!! A new chapter is starting in my life and I have to start making plans for my husband and I when we are empty nesters!!Thank goodness my granddaughter started grade six and I will still have her around to spoil!!
Enjoy the day everyone, I will be on the operating end of the vacuum for most of the day, we had new windows put in and there is dry wall dust everywhere, and I mean that stuff gets every where. Oh well a jump start on my fall cleaning!!
TG-I will be just one year behind you being an empty nester and it will feel weird. Just got some chicken thighs for .88 lb at No Frills so happy with that.
I'm back Dr. thinks i have GERD seems every night when i go to bed i cough constantly, that's why i'm getting very little sleep.I have to change my diet and lose at least 30lbs.The good new final got rid of my headache the Dr said it was probably do to the humidity as i'm prone to headaches when it's humid
JnC that's scary about your mil glad no one was hurt. A few yrs ago before my granddaughter was going to school i was babysitting her and she went everywhere with me .Tuesdays we would go to Walmart this particular day she was home sick i got slammed by a snow plow right where she sits, total the car i said a little prayer that day.I do believe thing happen for a reason
TG i know what you mean when you talk about empty nest both of my girls left home before i was 40
Oh you were a young mom YouandMe, I had one gone by 40...been at this being a mom thing for a long time!!
-ahhh empty nesters -it is hard mine left when I was 47 -daughter left first then my son when I was 50 but we still had mom til 2 years ago -so empty nesters for 2 years now -I do miss them sometimes -not the grocery bills that is for sure
-well ladies sent hubby to fortinos to get some fruit for the house -told him hope you spend 20.00 cause I get extra points
-well I told him 4 slices of watermelon -he got 2-a bunch of seedless grapes -he got a handful -at least he used the free coupon for blueberries and the girl had to call manager over cause she said it doesn t look like the picture (strawberries) I got him to get blueberries -they are still berries -lol the manager said okay
-need less to say he didn't hit the 20.00 mark was 1.and change short -oh well
-plus I needed bread 4.69 for a loaf of musliel-country harvest I said oh well he spent 26.18 and said look I did better than you do
-I bit my tongue -cause I never pay 4.69 for bread -oh well it sure helped cause I just ate a banana-I couldn't go shopping when I need to stay near a toilet -lol
@SassyAshley what a disappointment about the delivery, I would definitely make an official complaint and follow up if they don't reply after a set amount of time. Hope you get some resolution financial or otherwise. Best of luck with the assembling
Well the house is blazing hot as I started peeling apples at 9am and finished the canning process at 130pm. I'm tired but happy I got the apples done.
FIL brought me over some apples yesterday which we were not included in this mornings canning.
The apples FIL brought I will peel tonight and put in the freezer for later use.
Well anyways I ended up with 12x 1 litre jars of apples in medium syrup. I finally got the rhthym of things and it was over. I will admit my apple peeler wouldn't work this am so I ended up peeling apples for 3 hours....sigh...but it's done AND I'm glad.
I need to have another look at the remaining pears and gather the tomatoes from the garden. It will be nice to have all these goodies in jars and/or freezer for later use. BUT I'm pooped but grateful for all the free pears and apples so I shouldn't complain.
Thanks everyone for your kind remarks regarding MIL's accident and Jaden not being in the vehicle.
@YOU AND ME I'm happy to hear your headache is gone. I too would like to lose 30lbs so I will be joining the weight loss thread after school starts. My goal is to lose 5lbs a month which is a reasonable & healthy amount in my opinion. Good luck with the journey.
Good Morning All,
Today is build day, just taking care of a few business matters before we get started. Never fails day off and computers won't log on so I checked nothing wrong but since I had my laptop open might as well look into a customer question to get the details to sales manager so we can put that issue to rest. Also waiting for our shipping manager to get in so I can try to deal with another order, why do people not believe us when we say there is a 2 to 3 week turnaround on their order? So seeing if I can move things around and get this order out.
Is it 8 yet? I so want to go wake Mom up and get this day started. I moved everything around last night so we are ready to get started. I have before photos I hope to get up on my blog soon. I am hoping after this weekend things will slow down a bit. I know the house won't be done but will hopefully be in a much better place which will give me a little bit more me time.
Alright well might as well get some crochet done before Mom gets up, I am working on her Christmas present right in front of her and she has no clue, it is wonderful. Have a great day everyone.

Good morning, everyone. :)
My Mom is home safe and sound. She's been telling me horror stories about the migrants in Budapest (the place looks like a war zone). I've been posting some details in Madchives' thread if anyone is interested.
On a brighter note, after 3 months of struggling, I finished bff's b-day present. When we were on the cruise, there was an art auction on the ship & we both fell in love with an abstract painting of a woman in a yellow dress looking out at the Mediterranean. We actually contemplated buying a piece of art together (neither of us had ever considered it), but it was way beyond our price range. Still, both of us were haunted by the painting. So, I came up with a plan to paint a little picture for D's bday. As I said, I have been struggling with the darn thing for ages & made tons of mistakes (I finally managed to sketch a semi decent pic, only to discover that the graphite shows through the paint :(). Knowing bff, I'll get praised for my efforts (if not my skills :P). So, without further ado, here she is:

Off to get some stuff done around here. Have a lovely evening of theatre planned for tonight, then, with any luck, I'm off to the Ex in the morning. Sunday will be a day of rest. ;)
Hope everyone has a wonderful day. :)
TGIF! I hope everyone has a fantastic long weekend. It's my best friends 40th bday today so we are having a bbq gathering tonight. So happy that we have sunshine! Tomorrow DS is going to a friends birthday party so any running around I will do while he is gone but I don't think I really need anything so will work on cleaning the garage and any outside projects I wanted to get done. Clean up and paint the entrance door trim etc and clean the stones on the step (they are full of mildew) I also need to wipe down my car on the inside and vacuum it and put in my new mats :)
Hi YOU AND ME!
For the longest time I get waking up with a migraine every day. I would take Excedrine Migraine which is acetaminophen- 1 regular dose, + aspirin- 1 regular dose and the equivalent of 1 cup of coffee worth of caffeine. You might try that combination. After years of just suffering with no meds working it was a miracle - pain gone in under an hour.
But, I recently cut aspartame, and dairy and most sugars from my diet and - voila- migraines gone!
I hope you can find some relief!
