thanks for posting that info lola, it does seem as if Sears is actually trying to keep their customers. I cannot see any negative points in that revised Loyalty programme, except maybe that with Sears MC you earned double the points on purchases. Not sure if there will be any other option to earn 2x the points. We all still must wait and see I suppose.

I agree it all sounds sketchy the way things came across.
From what I have been told, Chase sent out a letter to it's clients independent from Sears, so they had no way of knowing what Sears plans were (regarding loyalty cards, etc).
Chase will replace clients current Sears mastercard with a Chase mastercard. The new card will not accumulate sears points and cannot be paid at Sears locations. It will be a Chase mastercard with no ties to Sears.
Sears is RUMOURED to be in talks with other credit card companies to form a new alliance. No concrete details have been released.
Hopefully Sears gets ahead of this quickly and forms a new alliance fast or they will lose a lot of customers.
I personally still love Sears (which is rare since I'm quite young compared to their key customer demographic). Some items are pricey but when on sale they are comparable to many other stores. I do a lot of my kids clothes shopping there, so personally I'm excited by the announcement of a loyalty program that isn't attached to a credit card.
Although I am wondering what incentive would people have if they secure a deal with a new CC company? Perhaps even more points when using the new card in addition to the longer return policy?

oh and lola wasn't it Sears that offered if your kid outgrew his clothes before they wore out they would exchange them? Oh yes Kidvantage.
I like that idea and could see a how they would attract younger customers ( Moms ) to their stores.
If and when the Sears MC is gone I would not want mine replaced with another one from Chase, I'd just have no use for it really.

So Chase will replace all of our Sears mastercards with Chase mastercards?..so what are we going to do with our old Sears mastercards/ how will this happen exactly?
/ I'm still waiting to hear how payments can be made from Sears mastercards...after Nov. have they said anything yet or will they still update us on that..
I wonder if Sears will close it's doors anytime soon..there's all sorts of talk going around.

There was a fellow on CTV chatting about the financial condition that Sears is in and one thing he said struck me: "Sears makes NO money selling any merchandise. The only revenue they have right now is from the sale of its stores."
I've always contended that Sears isn't long for this world and will likely go to on line only, selling off all its stores. I wonder, though...who on earth will replace them in smaller towns like ours? Sears is a biggie here and although I'm forced to shop there for some items, it will be missed. It holds down a lot of malls in Canada.

Oh they have already closed down some stores..yea our Sears isn't doing so well either, there's rarely anyone there, I myself very much prefer The Bay, it's up to date and there's a lot more variety there..I hope the Sears at our mall closes..this mall near me is quite small but used to have The Bay and then that closed that down we had Sears..and now it seems Sears is also going to close down...again, I don't know, our whole mall is almost empty now, there's about 3-4 stores that closed, La Senza closed down several months ago, there's all this empty space and half the mall is telephone companies...things are not looking good for anyone..

Our Sears store has turned into a "Clearance" style store. Hoping it won't completely close as that would leave us with just a Wal-Mart since Zellers failed and Target shut down.

^ Nothing wrong with Wally Mart though, and if SEARS leaves, it will make for a day out trip for you to the nearest bigger city...Burlington / Oakville????

Sears cards are being aquired by ScotiaBank. effective on the Nov 16th existing customers should be receiving Scotia Mstercards in their place.
I cannot post a link as I am too new. Long time lurker just registered recently.
Should be a fairly smooth transition.
