Most of you guys know how I have been frantically searching for hay bales. Well, yesterday all my grovelling phone calls paid off. I scored 15 round hay bales for $100.00 each!!!! Yahoooo! My horses get to live another year! While I am still hunting for at least 5-6 more, this at least takes the pressure off. $1500.00 for grass. I remember paying less than that back in the day

Is that an average price? Where are you if I may ask?
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness.

We have had a drought in Alberta. I usually pay $50/$75 for a 1000lb round bale. People are either not selling/hoarding bales &/or selling for insane prices. I have seen people asking $250+ per bale. Some people have resorted to stealing bales from fields which is why mine will be stored beside my house. And why I am sooo happy enough to post a brag although its not really a brag.

Stealing bales??!! Oh, my!! I, too, never knew how expensive they can be!! I just love driving by fields of white "marshmallows"...Although can I ask something...don't the bales get all moldy when they're trussed up in plastic like that? I've always been curious about that.....

That's awesome! So happy you were able to find some bales for your horses.

I think the gov't should have a program where bales can be sent on trains that are already travelling from one province to another for super cheap. Some provinces have tons of grass and others really need it. It would make sense to try and bridge the gap...

Hay is being trucked in from BC, Sask and Montana. The only drawbacks to that is weeds transfere and rats hitching rides. We are the only province that is rat free and not every load coming in can be checked for them.

Rat free? in Alberta? Did you have the Pied Piper of Calgary "trick" them out of the province? Or was it a Saint, Like St. Patrick that rid Ireland of snakes?

I know right, we actually have a Rat Patrol, it was huge news here for the last couple of summers because the Medicine Hat Dump found some rat nests.
