So they are showing little kids not getting a needle this year in ON.
They can get a spray instead.
Some parents will be happy.

so, this is for kids only ?....
The mist is recommended for children between two and nine.
FluMist is licensed for use in Canada for people from two to 59 years of age.
In Sask:
Residents 6 months and older can get the injectable flu vaccine at public flu clinics once they start on October 19th. FluMist (nasal vaccine), for 2-17 year olds, will be available from public health clinics before the end of October.
Pharmacists will offer only injectable vaccine (not nasal vaccine) to adults and children 9 years of age and older with a valid Saskatchewan health card. Children under 9 will need to be vaccinated at a public health clinic.

Some can't get the mist - like me, being immune-compromised.
Thankfully they're still giving the option for kids to get a needle instead, DD wouldn't tolerate someone trying to shove something up her nose, but amazingly never fussed with her flu shots previous years...
Yes, nice to have choices.
The spray tip is not shoved up the child's nose. It sits just inside the nostril, like #3 & #6:

interesting. I had a shot administered way too high up on my shoulder which caused a lot of complications. Something to be aware of when you are getting a shot.
If you are wanting your child to get the spray, check with your provider before you go.
Here in SK they are warning there are short of supply in Saskatoon, but still have some.
In Regina, it won't be available for a few weeks yet.
For Ontario, if your child is under 5 years old, the pharmacists can't give them their flu shot or spray. Your family doctor can. The public health clinics can.
They didn't get it in at our doctor's office. It's a fairly large clinic with over 20 family doctors. Has anyone else been able to get one?
My 16 year old got the spray at the Public health flu clinic in Alberta. She was fine with getting the shot but the nurse told us that 4 types of flu were covered in the nasal spray and only 3 in the shot and since she was under 18 she recommended she have the nasal spray. I would expect this would be the case in all provinces (the two vaccines differing) but maybe not-the provinces may vary what age pharmacists can immunize and may also limit the nasal spray to younger children if they are running low on it.
Yes you are right. The spray protects against 4 flu viruses and the vaccine protects against 3 flu viruses this year. The younger the child, the easier it is for them to get the flu, because their immune system is not as strong. Your 16 year old would be o.k. with the vaccine against the 3 viruses because your 16 year old's immune system may be stronger than a little one's immune system.
Either way, if it helps your 16 year old to stay healthy, then, by all means get the spray.
