Energy and the Environment
The Liberals favour national targets to
curb greenhouse-gas emissions. The party supports the Keystone XL pipeline, but
has also said the current federal pipeline review process is not strict enough.
The Liberals have pledged that they would spend $20-billion over 10 years on
“greener infrastructure,” and issue Green Bonds to fund environmentally friendly
energy projects. Justin Trudeau has vowed to set national targets, but allow
provinces to design their own emissions-reduction systems, and pledged
$2-billion for the Low Carbon Economy Trust, which will give funding to projects
that reduce carbon emissions.
[Hopefully not at the
expense of jobs (Carbon Emission trading will cost Canadian jobs if
manufacturers here have to buy credits to offset
pollution)]
Public Finances
The Liberals say they will
run three years of deficits that would help pay for infrastructure spending, but
promise that the size of the annual deficits will not exceed $10-billion. The
party says it will balance the books in 2019.
[lower
Canadian dollar as a result but hey at least there's additional
employment]
Taxation
The Liberals would introduce a new
tax rate of 33 per cent on income of more than $200,000. That would help fund a
tax cut on income between $44,701 and $89,401, where the rate would drop to 20.5
per cent from 22 per cent.
[I'm sure some of the rich
have special investment vehicles or their bankers are proposing the exotic tax
shelter products as I post this]
Manufacturing and
Infrastructure
The Liberals have promised $60-billion in new spending on
roads, bridges, transit and other projects by running three years of deficits to
finance the increase in infrastructure spending. A Liberal government will
quadruple federal funding for public transit, investing $20-billion more in
transit infrastructure. The Liberals will establish the Canada Infrastructure
Bank to provide loan guarantees and small capital contributions so provinces and
municipalities can ensure that their projects are built.
[Hoping that puts a stop to the ever-rising price of public
transportation]
Jobs
The Liberals have pledged to invest
$300-million annually in a Youth Employment Strategy, and offer a 12-month break
on Employment Insurance premiums to encourage companies to hire young Canadians
in permanent positions. If elected, the party also plans to cut EI premiums from
the current $1.88 per $100 earned to $1.65. The Liberals have pledged to give
$500-million annually to the provinces and territories for training programs,
with an additional $200-million for training workers who can’t get federal
training and $50-million for aboriginal education.
[Less
bickering and complaining on the Career
section.]
Families
The Liberals would reallocate funds
from income splitting and the Universal Child Care Benefit to create a Canada
Child Benefit, which would provide an additional $2,500 a year for a typical
family of four. A Liberal government will introduce more flexible parental
benefits that will make it possible for parents to take a longer leave at a
lower benefit level. The Liberals will introduce a new Seniors Price Index to
guarantee that benefits for seniors keep up with their rising
costs.
Foreign Policy
Ukraine: The Trudeau Liberals support
Canadian military efforts to train Ukrainian troops. The party would also extend
sanctions imposed on Russia to some financial institutions.
Islamic State:
The Liberals would end Canada’s bombing mission against the Islamic State in
Syria and Iraq, but would bolster Canadian efforts to help train Iraqi
soldiers.
Syrian refugees:A Liberal government would immediately expand the
number of government-sponsored Syrian refugees entering Canada to 25,000 and
invest an additional $100-million for refugee processing and
settlement.
[Hopefully they are bringing the right people
in to build a better Canada]
Health Care
A Liberal
government would immediately negotiate the Canada Health Transfer and a new
health accord with provincial and territorial governments to achieve long-term
funding. The party has also promised to join provinces to negotiate lower costs
for prescription drugs. The Liberals would invest $3-billion over the next four
years to improve services for home-care patients, and another $190-million to
give paid time off to Canadians who look after seriously ill family members. A
Liberal government will respect the Supreme Court’s decision on
physician-assisted death and set up an all-party committee to come up with
recommendations for legislation on the issue. This thread is currently associated with: N/A

That is something that pretty much disgusted me. The "new digs" are actually the Governor General's secretary's house What a waste. Time to get rid of the monarchy.

A note Justin Trudeau wrote two years ago to a fellow airplane passenger is now on eBay. Trudeau used his father's famous words to predict Harper's defeat.
A note that Justin Trudeau wrote on a flight back in 2013, is now on eBay for thousands of dollars.
Someone on the flight recognized Trudeau and passed him a note.
“Justin, can you really beat Harper?” Trudeau wrote back three words made famous by his father - “Just watch me.”
