Exactly how I purchased a lap top a few months ago. Worked out well, got 20x on the $100+ difference.

I saved PC points, then spent them as grocery money and bought an Xbox One on 20x the points day and got about $150 of points back :)

I purchased a PS4 with the senior's discount last week. After calling all over the entire city, there was only one of the version I was looking for in stock at one location and I wasn't sure if it was going to last until the upcoming electronics sale. I wasn't really prepared to drive more than 10 km and the cost was the same as Amazon.ca.
I did purchase GCs at the last GC with points bonus offer. It's nice that the senior's discount comes off before taxes.
Base cost: 429.99 (before tax)
-Senior's discount: 86
= 343.99
+ HST: 44.72
= 388.71
- 170 redeemed points
= 218.71
+ 1730 SDM points accumulated ($3.10 at top level redemption) + 8000 points for personal offer ($14.32 at top level redemption)
= $215.61 total without bonus points
My total that day = $201.29
On 20X points day:
Total cost: $485.89 (after tax)
-170 redeemed points
= 315.89
+ 51,800 SDM points
51,800 SDM points = 92.69 at top level redemption
= $223.20 total
Using the senior's discount is less but only if they take off the full $86.
my 8 yr old ds has this on his christmas list.. haha.. I guess the wiiu and xbox aren't enough for him.. :) Thanks for this - may try it with my mom as senior on hand.. :)
Seems that Nov21 flyer mentions 100$ SDM giftcard with any PS$ bundle purchase; better deal than 20% seniors discount.
The senior's discount of $86 includes tax, so if you're in Ontario, it equates to a $97.18 discount. From $100, that would be a difference of $2.82, which wouldn't be enough for my bus fare. Also check your Optimum offers and you may have bonus points for spending over a certain amount. For example, I had a 8,000 bonus point offer the week of, so it's an extra $14.32 at the top level redemption. For me, it was a discount of $111.50.
I also picked it up because it was the last one in the city and there's no guarantee they're restocking this exact version. It seems that at SDM, you really have to look at the fine details to get the best deal and not just the primary offer. Good luck to everyone!
