I am taking a break from last minute rush to get ready to go on our trip tomorrow. DH was given the OK to go today at 9:00 am! That's cutting it down to the wire! We've been running ever since.

A while ago I promised a recipe for Pumpkin and Potato soup. It turned out to be Pumpkin and Zucchini Soup. I finally found the recipe book that I got at a Heart Smart Cooking Course a few years ago.

Georgia's Pumpkin and Zucchini Soup from The Lighthearted Cookbook by Anne Lindsay

3 cups peeled, cubed pumpkin or squash 750mL
    3 cups cubed zucchini 750mL
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed 2
    1 large onion, sliced 1
    2 cups chicken stock 500mL
    2 tbsp vegetable oil 25mL
2 tbsp chopped fresh parsley 25mL
    2 cloves garlic, chopped 2
    3/4 cup milk 175mL
    1 tsp dried basil (or 2 tb/25 mL 5mL
    chopped fresh)
    Garnish: fresh mint leaves

In a large saucepan, combine pumpkin, zucchini, potatoes, onion, chicken stock, oil, parsley and garlic. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes stirring occasionally until vegetables are tender. If stock simmers down, add water to regain original level.

Puree in batches in food processor or blender. Return to saucepan: add milk and basil and heat until hot.

    Makes 8 servings (3/4 cup/175 mL each)

    Per Serving
    99 calories
    4.2 g fat
    2 mg cholesterol
    202 mg sodium
    418 mg potassium
    3.3 g protein
    12.9 g carbohydrate

Of course you can "fiddle" around with this to meet your needs.

    Hope you enjoy it!

CG-I have heard other people say they do their redemptions after midnight but I have never tried it-never up that late-lol. I just go first thing in the morning when it opens. You could always call 1-800-Shoppers to verify.

Yippee, it is Tuesday. Yep I am counting down to the weekend and even more so Shut Down which I do not feel bad about as my Bro said he is doing the exact same thing yesterday.

Looks like my car is going in today to be serviced for the winter, yippee looks like it is just in time as the snow is starting to fly and I do not have my snow tired on yet.

I am a little bit annoyed on the weekend Mom made Chicken Noddle Soup and I made Lasagna Soup for us to have stuff in the fridge for quick meals. Well last night Mom tells me she is avoiding tomatoes which is fine but why not tell me this before I made the soup. She did this to me last year too, I made her French Onion Soup at her request and then she came up with all these excuses not to eat it leaving me to eat it all and I am not a huge fan of French Onion Soup. Why wait until the food is cooked to say something, guess we will see if the soup will freeze as I will not eat it all in a week.

Not much else going on managed to clean the kitchen last night although to can't tell now, came down this morning and the sink is full again. Have not decided yet if I will deal with that tonight or not, may just leave it and clean the bathroom instead. I have decided to only tackle one chore a night to give myself some off time as well I have cut back slightly at work and usually am not here until 6:30 to 7 instead of 6 to 6:30. Feeling very worn down so I need to do something to keep going for the last few weeks before shut down.

Have a great day everyone, I must go find the top of my desk rumour has it is a nice grey colour but right now it lost under a sea of papers.

@sweet sparrow it can take up to a month for the 5k points to show up if you don't see them in a month call.
I finally saw my points in the account on the sixth week, last day. Thank goodness they finally showed up. I've had a lot of buy now, points later with PC when I had their silver MC and always ended up calling and asking where the points were up to three months later. The longer the wait, the more I suspect they're hoping you forget about it after a while.

@coupon girl : Oh CG. I remember getting LO in her snowsuit for the first time last year and sticking her in the snow. She stood there in her snow pants, coat, mittens, hat, etc. and cried. I snapped a photo to remind myself not to do it again, and took her inside. Then when she went to daycare last year, I had to get her into her snowsuit every day to load her up on the bus. She'd cry, throw her mittens, scream so hard that all her teachers came running. It was a daily routine, me scrambling to get the snowsuit on her before we missed the bus, LO crying the entire time until we were out and I was pushing the stroller through the snow.

It does get better, but when you're going through it, the phase lasts forever.

Saturday, I followed @lizzie bargain 's advice. I went to the doctor and he wrote me an additional prescription for bronchitis, and then sent me for an x-ray. He said my right lung sounded really bad. I also thought I'd get a flu shot while I was there and still feel bruised from it. That night, I felt exhausted and felt even worse. I haven't had a flu shot in a decade, so I hope it was just that and temporary.

I'm supposed to call in within the next few days for the results. Hopefully it's not serious.

Getting a bit nervous. First day is tomorrow.

Im going for lunch with my old coworkers today at noon. Leaving bf home alone (he gets soup made from leftover taco meat left over sausages &tomato sauce with corn onions celery and leftover cut up vermicelli noodles)

We get the boys for the evening (yay) so are doing a roast for supper.

I got quite the giggle when bfs mom told me that our youngest informed their mom infront of her (their nan) that he was glad they went to nan's for supper on friday because he hates the processed food she (their mom) feeds them. It also made me feel they appreciate our efforts with making real food.

Decided to look for unscented white kitchen garbage bags for 30L cans because Glad Febreze scented ones have been in use since around the time Mom was sick. Food Basics' Selection brand has 40 bags (29L) for $4.89. Last night, saw that Cdn Tire's Frank brand has 34L bags (40ct) for $3.88.

Washed the bin liner and also the floor last night. Great to have a bag that fits the opening as the Febreze bags were for 21L cans (I did not buy the bags).

My tonsils are not so agitated today either...hope Mom feels better soon as well.
@avoncallingu -yes, it was a Corelle dessert plate that shattered. Funnily enough, my brother bought himself a Corelle cereal bowl and bread and butter plate the day after.

@sweet sparrow glad you went to the doctors, I find as parents we neglect our own health BUT so happy you took the time and went
@SassyAshley with both your schedules being off, could your mom not load the dishwasher before she leaves and you empty and refill, etc or vice versa
It's too bad that your mom has changed her tune to your cooking, like you said it kinda of defeats getting ahead with quick fix meals.

I checked online and Equifax has charged my card for the credit score portion so I'm guessing I should have something back within a week which will give me some insight as to what PC financial was concerned about.

On a happier front I cashed out $40 worth of swagbucks for amazon.ca so now I will wait and keep checking to see when the codes are available to be used.
Does anyone know if you can use more than 1 code in a transaction? never used swagbucks codes ever.

Also have a plan for Saturday redemption as sdm if the stars alight (items being in stock). I transferred points to dh card so that he can do a $100 redemption with my help of course.

Logan has an appointment tomorrow evening so I will check out the sdm in that town and see if they have the camera I want as a gift for dh, xbox1 games to see if there is anything that eldest boy wants and earphones as well.

If all else fails might end up doing a grocery shop for relieve some funds which could them be used to purchase gifts.

Does anyone know if the Loblaws chains have amazon.ca gift cards on their racks? EB games (didn't see any of these)?

wishing everyone a great afternoon & evening.

@Ciel glad you found some garbage bags that fit, it can be so frustrating trying to find the exact size. I know it has taken a few oopsies here trying to get the proper size.

Hello, Hope everyone is having a great start to the week. I am feeling tired/wiped like others. Going to try my best to chug along as I can't take a sick day as I have so much work to catch up on as it is with all these vacation days I have to use up. Will make sure to get to bed early tonight. I took out ground beef yesterday with the plan to make tacos tonight. I was hoping to cook it up last night but was wiped. I have a meeting tonight but will put it on the stove on low and still pull off taco Tuesday that is sure to please both boys! Making extra so DS and I can have taco salad tomorrow night before hockey game. I splurged and bought the 6 pk of romaine hearts at Costco for $4.99 but plan to use it up smartly. That price rocks compared to the price at Walmart I saw yesterday ($6.97 for 3pk!!)
Will make sure to tidy the kitchen tonight after dinner and prep lunches for tomorrow. Laundry is on the list too, put a load in to wash and hang to dry and to put away everything that is clean and dry and ready for its home. Then a hot bath and book and bed for me.
