Copied from blog!
It is the gift card offer most of us have been waiting for! Starting Saturday, buy two or more gift cards totalling $175 or more at Shoppers Drug Mart and get 8000 bonus points, worth over $16 at bonus redemption.
There is a limit of three offers per card/person and you will not receive multiple points per transaction, so if you bought $350 in one transaction, you will only get 8000 bonus points. You will not receive points if you use another gift card to buy gift cards. Points will not be awarded immediately, so make sure you keep your receipts and check back on November 20th for your points.
As with last year, there is some fraud with Shoppers Drug Mart gift cards as the PIN is not needed. It is best to get a card from the cashier and not the gift card rack where there is a chance of them being copied. There were some isolated instances of cards that were copied last year, and Shoppers will be a prime target for this with this promotion.

If I buy SDM Gift cards to get the 8000 bonus points, can I then turn around and use them to pay on a bonus points offer and receive the bonus points?
Ex: spend $75 get 18,500 points....or is this not allowed?

Yes, you can use them at any time like cash, you just won't get points if you try to use them for another GC promo (the first year people used the first set to pay for the second set and so on)

Is there a list somewhere to know which gift cards are included in the promo or is it all gift cards? Specifically I want to get some Tim Horton ones.

It included all gift cards last time, even prepaid visa etc (although the activation fees don't count towards the $175)

Was the gift card amount always this high? I thought I remembered doing it a few years ago and the two gift cards only had to total 100?

I think it's get 8000 points wub $150 in GC for the last few years...but once again I won't be participating this year...not worth the hassle.

I wonder if sdm now carries pc gift cards? I always buy a bunch of sdm to pay for prescription dispensing fees that are not covered by my plan.
Wonder if cashiers will insist on manually adding the points to my card 1000 points at a time, then realize they shouldn't be doing that then accuse me of trying to rip them off. That was super fun experience!

I've never done this before...but I'm planning on gifting a lot of gift cards this year as oppose to gifts so why not get some points at the same time.

Some stores dont accept credit card transactions on GCs over $100, make sure you go to a good store.

Yeah they can be a bit weird about them, I had one wanted to take a photocopy of my ID and CC to keep in the cash register (not just see my ID, copy it and staple a copy to my receipt and copy of my CC front & back! Talk about risk of ID theft!)
Another store only accepts debit/cash for GCs
Also, popular gift cards sold out in some stores last year so worth shopping early and scouting for good stores.
