Check this thread for a NEW Ontario Electricity Credit/Rebate program for low income people. This just started this year from January, 2016 .
So if you qualify or know others who qualify, please apply for it. According toe lecale only 7 % of eligible people have applied for it so far. That's sad, as these are needy people, who can use this money.
this program seems to be poorly advertised or marketed. i haven't seen much buzz around it. its almost as if they want you to lose out on it , by not applying or inaction on your part. Then they will use the excuse no one applied for it and its not popular so we are scrapping it

Toronto Hydro customers who are using more than 800 kWh per month are going to be paying about $77 more this year for their electricity: http://www.thestar.com/news/city_hal...t-to-rise.html
You can read the Appendix part of the OEB decision for the rate numbers for the applicable residential building category that applies to your family: http://www.rds.ontarioenergyboard.ca...L_20160301.PDF2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

Do each of you have access to the Kill-A-Watt kits that used to be promoted through local library systems?
Suggest you find your electricity provider's annual report and see if there are notes about where your fixed costs of the hydro bill are being spent (infrastructure renewal or replacement, salary and benefits, etc.). Also see how much the old fridge/freezer pickups are costing and other marketing campaigns too.
I'd like the return of tiered rates/set kwh hours for Hydro One but all I can expect is the return of new rates for the next time of use change on March 1 for Hydro One customers.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

When I did turn off the power bar that is connected to the TV and DVD players, there was major consternation from the other family members (who did not think to turn the power on and off for tv viewing). So there is phantom power problem in the living room and I'm not the gadget-happy person responsible for the situation. I've noticed the power bill is trending upwards, despite my no longer being online and rarely with the computer on (except for an occasional DVD viewing or file revision).

Found an Easter Egg notice on Hydro One's site about Time of Use rates this weekend:
With the excitement of Easter weekend before us, it can be easy to forget that Friday, March 25, 2016 is considered a "holiday" for Time-of-Use pricing. This means you can enjoy off-peak electricity prices for the entire long weekend, starting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 and ending at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2016.
On days considered "holidays" for Time-of-Use pricing, off-peak prices for electricity apply for the entire day. These "holidays" are designated by the Ontario Energy Board because the demand for electricity is much lower than on an average weekday.
By using the Time-of-Use periods you can manage your electricity costs by using electricity during low-demand, or off-peak periods. This can also help reduce the need for additional power generation during peak periods.
For more information about TOU prices visit www.HydroOne.com/TOU or visit the Ontario Energy Board's Time-of-Use Holiday Schedule for a full list of the designated 2016 Time-of-Use holidays.
You can also visit our Save Energy page for more tips on how to conserve electricity in your home.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.

See if your hydro provider is giving you the same deal if you are on TOU as well.
But I also saw this item about Hydro One salaries:
Interestingly, that spike in the number of people making big money occurred even with the chop of roughly 4,000 Hydro One workers — who became exempt from the list when the service went private.2021-Bring on the sunshine, sweets & online shopping.
