PETA has launched a new ad campaign comparing the slaughter of animals to what happened to Tim McLean. They did not discuss this first with his friends or family.

If you think that PETA has gone too far by exploiting this young man's death to further their own cause (neither had anything to do with another), and/or you feel that they are being incredibly insensitive please sign the petition here that they pull these ads. (I think they should also be made to publicly apologize to his family.)

They haven't actually lauched anything - It's even worse than that.

Instead of paying money to run the ads - they tried to run the ad in a Portage, MB paper, (which would cost almost nothing, and was guaranteed to not be run)

THen they put out a press release to the rest of the world, saying that they were "planning" to run the ad.

THis way, for FREE, they get to exploit the situation, and everybody in the world knows about it.

I will no longer even look at any news article regarding this, nor will I give them the satisfaction of petitioning, it's all still numbers, in their favour, FOR FREE, and it is hurtful and insensitive to Mr McLean's memory and to his family and friends.

PS - I refuse to get any of their freebies - and I hope nobody else supports them, either. (Yes I know it's your choice, but I can still hope...)

I absolutely despise their tactics. They disgust me. I also do not support them. Nor do I read anything they dish out anymore.

i'm a vegetarian and have been for almost six years, and hate peta. they will exploit anything (as clearly shown in this case) to bully people into believing what they preach.

peta is BS, and as milton said, i do not support them at all.

I am a huge supporter of peta but i do believe they went too far here. The family has enough to deal with now. I'd also like to add that i realize they don't get the popular vote here but they do have the best intentions - they speak for those who can't defend themselves.

The ads wont run so i don't see the point in anyone getting bent out of shape over it.

Whether or not the ad ran, it is big news, which is what they wanted. PETA made sure that it became public. So they still exploited this young man's death. I think it was very manipulative.

Regardless of whether or not the ad won't run, people are still reeling from this tragedy. It still hurts to think about, and it is just a horrible exploitation. Its outrageous, and people just want to express that they don't support it. My daughter is a vegetarian, and although she was a PETA supporter, after seeing this, she has stated she will no longer be one.(supporter)

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, and I understand that you have your own ideas. I just read my post over and thought it was a little opinionated, so I thought I would clarify. I am not trying to push my opinion on anyone, it is just my point of view.

PETA is wrong to have done this.

PETA does not and will not ever get my support. They have their rights but when they use the tragic events of an innocent victim to bring attention to themselves...well to me that is disgusting...how they could even think of comig up with that ad is beyond me...it just proves to me that they are off their rockers. What I sent to PETA..
How you even came up with this idea for this ad is beyond me, were you all just sitting around munching on carrots and say.." Oh that poor man got beheaded...oh don't they cut off the heads of chickens...isn't that the same thing...hey let's run an ad"
You have your right to voice your opinions, but to compare a human life to that of am animal is disgustint and I sincerely hope you apologize to the family.

I'm not saying i agree with what PETA has done. It upsets me that they can make rash decisions like this at times without thinking through the consequences, because ulitimately, even though they have good intentions, its not the best way to make their point made. I think its a poor reflection of all the good work this organization has and continues to do, however i'm still going to support them.

To clarify, i'm NOT a vegetarian but very consciencious of where my food comes from (living/kill conditions etc). I also compare humans to animals all the time. No creature was meant to be factory farmed etc. Anyways, sorry if i'm going off subject here, but i just wanted to clarify.

I understand everyone is going to have their own opinions and i agree it was NOT a well thought-out move for them.

Exactly. Yet they are against all this. If it wasn't for animal testing. Vice Pres would be dead.

They've also got a huge walk in freezer for all those animals they "put down".

I always considered them over opinionated, trying to push their ideals on the world, BUT, they were doing something to bring attention to animal abuse.
Like Greenpeace, they have gotten too big for their own britches and is time the public ignores them and supports more grass roots organizations.
