I hope they make an example of this one and she doesn't get away with it. Empathy for this sort of thing seems to be an easy way to scam, and because of the way she looks (CHCH news had a picture of her), nobody seem to question it.

It's been done before, and obviously harsher penalties are needed

You know with all these "Go Fund Me" and Crowd funding sites now it's becoming easier for the scum of the earth to scam people.
Watch out at this time of year especially when people are sentimental and already in a giving mode.

I am just peeved when this happens.....as I volunteer for the run for the cure every year. It seems the punishment isn't standard when someone pulls a scam or does a more serious crime. The woman who killed two in London, ON a couple of years ago by reversing into a Costco.....had a license suspended for 5yrs and a couple of years prison time. She is appealing this conviction...the nerve.

No prison time
Last month, Burger was sentenced to three years of probation, had her driver's license suspended for five years and was ordered to complete 240 hours of community service.

Another one...why do they all keep getting light sentences?
Crown prosecutors John Ramsay and Julian Daller braved police incompetence and a high-powered defence to secure the conviction.
But Kozloff declined to give Natsis the six- to eight-year sentence they'd sought, highlighting her previous good character and lack of a criminal record.
And he pointed to her emotional in-court apology in which she said the Casey family was perpetually in her thoughts.
"She expressed her deep sorrow, great shame, regret and remorse," Kozloff said.
