I'll probably watch; but only sports that are won without judges' decisions based on "performance"; I really dislike subjectively judged sporting events. I'm not sure they should even be rated as sports...they're more like stage performances.
Another Probable...If/when I remember that it's on..
Swimmer Michael Phelps said this is his last year. He won tons of swimming medals. He will become a father the same time he will be swimming in Brazil. This should be interesting.
Tokyo is set to host a national-only crowd (due to COVID-19 restrictions) for its Olympic Games this year. I've seen chatter on Twitter about some residents not wanting the Games to happen even this year (but anyone following the Games knows the host country is on the financial hook for various things).
I usually enjoy opening and closing ceremonies and music plus soccer, 100m track, swimming, volleyball (dislike the FIVB costumes though), and gymnastics (both genders on rings or pommel horse and floor exercises).
What I like about Canadian journalists' coverage are the daily looks at some aspect of host country food/culture/person on the street encounters (Rick Mercer) plus using the transit system. Guess all journalists outside of Japan are going to be reporting from their newsroom laptops rather than in an assigned room in Tokyo. Feels a bit like Vancouver's 2010 games-the French language support team was based in Quebec while the English team was in BC at the venues. It made sense to play to regional strengths while providing official language services.
