no, i have never smoked (tried it once when i was 13 or so)..but sometimes a stiff drink and a cigarette seem very appealing to me...not to get drunk or anything...just a nice combination when feeling particularl stressed.

I quit years ago. I didn't just "quit" though, I spent about 5 months of cutting down 1 cigarette per day every week, I counted them, and allowed myself only so many, so I knew that I could still smoke, but sometimes just had to wait an extra 15 minutes when I was having a craving. That was way more manageable for me, and by the time I got to three cigs a day, it was easy to just not always smoke them. But if I really wanted one I would, then I had none of those crazy nic fits. It's been years now, but sometimes, I'll sneak one if we're out having a few drinks with friends, and I refuse to feel guilty about it. (We buy a pack and keep it in the freezer, so it doesn't go stale, and we don't end up just being professional moochers)

I've smoked on and off for years. I just recently started again
after almost 5 years - I DON'T WANT to hear... "why???" LOL
Stress kills too and smoking right now, well let's just say
really helps me to stay calmer.

We don't smoke in the house either - our balcony is the only
    smoking area.

I used to smoke for many years 1/2 a pack a day. I tried every quit smoking aid out there with no success until I went to my doctor. He prescribed me Zyban and it worked like a charm! It was still hard quitting but with Zyban you take the medication for 2 weeks while you still smoke and after 2 weeks you quit. But this time the medication has been in your system and you continue to take it for a few more weeks until you've finished it. If you've ever tried to quit before and failed talk to your doc about Zyban its wonderful! However this is VERY expensive if your benefits won't cover it, but your health is worth it.

My father-in-law quit by using nicotine gum 1 and 1/2 years ago when my mother-in-law (may she rest in peace) was diagnosed with lung cancer and has been addicted to the gum ever since. I guess being addicted to gum is better than cigarettes.

Day 9 and the patch still has not kicked in, I would kill for a smoke now!!

Not only that but I never coughed before and now I am hacking away. Is this just my lungs clearing out??

I used Zyban too. I totally agree with all you're saying about it.
I'm going to try again soon.

i started smoking when i was 12 and quit when i was 30. i should say i quit for good when i was 30. it was hard to quit but with the patch and 2 weeks in bed i managed. i still crave, not the smell but the look of enjoyment on some peoples faces. some people don't look like they enjoy smoking but others look like they really do.

For anybody that is trying to quit, should stay away from this thread lol

I quit when I found out I was pregnant but even 6 months into my pregnancy I would kill for a smoke. I had to quit drinking coffee too just to make it somewhat bearable. I'm not sure if after I give birth I will go back to smoking all I know it is very hard to quit.
