Good for you @harbie that's an incredible lifestyle change. Good for you.

DH and I are slowly transitioning to eating less meat by stretching out with stir fries, soups or casseroles. DH doesn't want to give up meat completely though. I've found that I've been saving on meat costs lately by going to a couple of local butchers. I've found that their regular prices for ground beef and stew meat are similar to what grocery stores are charging for "value pack sale packs". We are also occasionally treating ourselves to steak. With steak, the prices are higher than a sale price at a grocery store but much more reliable in flavour and tenderness so well worth it.

I came across an updated list of average retail cost of food on the government website from July 2021 to November 2021. It's a handy tool, to compare prices I'm paying versus the average. I was pleased to see that I buy most items for lower prices than listed.

    https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1...pid=1810000201

In order to combat the higher prices, I'm starting a spreadsheet to track how much/where and when I find the best price for a regular item we purchase. I remember some people keeping price binders years ago and it makes sense to try to establish best price patterns.

Dh loves the beyond burgers while my favorite is the impossible meat that I form into my own patties.

I came across this article from the US which has some good pointers. I did have to bite my lip a bit when I saw some average prices for some items in the states. Anyways, hopefully it gives you an idea or two

Love it! What a great idea. I legit don’t have the space but I do have a garden plot at our building so I’ve been growing all kinds of veg for about 4 years now. I always do radishes, lettuces, peas, carrots, did tomatoes last year and they were amazing, green onions, fennel, and did garlic. Plus lots of herbs ( rosemary, thyme, dill and mint until it got outta hand). Can’t wait for spring.

My garden these last few seasons.

Beautiful gardens @harbie ! What an awesome idea to have gardens available at your building. It won't be long before we can get planting outside again. I was just thinking of ordering seeds soon. Last year I started some flowers in the little aerogarden inside.

Funny thing is that I was never a gardener but found it to be my space of peace which has been so needed these last gazzlion years of the pandemic . I love to just sit in the sun and watch the breeze blow the flowers and my blood pressure drops. Come on spring!

Arghh, even the price of Coke has risen from the usual $1 / 2L bottle to $1.39 (on sale!)
Guess I'll finally have to give up my sugar/caffeine addiction.

Continuing to shop the sales. (plan our meals around them)

Keep the fridge clean and use up things as needed. Today I made chicken fried rice for DS with the leftover rice. Had cooked chicken in the freezer I added. He will be happy and I am happy it didn't go to waste

Comet cleanser has shrunk from 480g to 400g AND they have the audacity to raise the (sale) price from $0.67 to $1 at the same time!

my current plan is a huge pantry deep clean... use up stuff we dont use so much. i am going to change from canned beans to dried beans for chili ect. . do stocking up on items we use loads of ...

i am watching for any and all fruit and veggie sales.. i will be freezing for winter needs... fruit muffins, fruit breads. ... veggies.. self explaintory.

i will be doing a .. can i make this cheaper , is there a alternative , with everything in the pantry.

i will also be stocking up on sale items. and running a list of those items needed.

i was in No frills, just for a quick couple of items. easy peasy right. i noticed.. oxyclean.. hmm.. co 51 has a rebate ... could be good.. nope.. large container 10.00 . OMG that is nuts.
I glance over at the Tide pods.. , big container.. 30.00 ... again.. OMG
    some prices are .. sad.
