So I've decided to fill backpacks for kids to go back to school with in the fall through an organization within my community. Each backpack includes a shirt, pants, shoes, underwear, socks, a sweater and school supplies and since I've committed to filling 5 bags (so far, I may do more depending on my deals) I've been on the hunt for deals!
Yesterday Gap had a 40% code and I also had a $50 promotional code so here is what I got:
6- pairs of white canvas shoes (in various sizes from 11-4) Reg. $39.99 on sale yesterday for $2.70 (I ordered them in the morning and went back on in the afternoon and they were up to $25.99)
6- t-shirts Reg. $16.95 paid $10.17
1x sweater shirt Reg. $39.99 paid $23 (not the best deal, but I figure I'll buy them slowly when I can get a deal...Im trying to buy things that are pretty good quality so they'll hopefully last the school year)
After my promotion code I think I did pretty well! Just over $50 and it puts a big dent in filling the backpacks! I bought everything in various sizes as although I know the age of the children I'm shopping for, I won't have more details until June.
Now a Question: I purchased 2 Skip and Hop animal backpacks for the JK and SK I'm shopping for but I'm not sure if the size is practical. They seem pretty small but then again 4 and 5 year olds are small. Does anyone have experience with these little bags? Should I return them and get something bigger? This thread is currently associated with: GapCome Join me on Swawbucks! Wow, you are amazing!!!! I think the small ones are great for SK and JK . They usually don't have much to carry back and forth to school. A lunch bag could/should fit in it to make it easier on them. Keep up the great unselfish work you do for others.

You are too kind!
Re the bags, my DDs school is strict with backpacks , they need to be big enough to fit a standard sheet of paper (can't be folded) for their report folders

I'm having so much fun doing it, and I'm really happy to help little ones feel confident going back to school!
Thanks for the tip. These are just under that size. I'm tempted to take them back....but the are so cute! Haha who doesn't want a butterfly or unicorn backpack. LolCome Join me on Swawbucks! It's an easy way to earn money for next Christmas! http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/Natalierose1995

Very kind of you and kids are lucky. In case you haven't checked yet, The Children's Place keeps having 50% off sale on everything plus there are various promo and dollar off codes. You might get lucky again like this shop.

What a great idea and very generous Kudos! Regarding the skip hop backpacks, they are more suitable for toddlers (like 2-4 yrs old) but I agree - they are indeed super duper cute! I'd planned on using our skip hop backpack for kindergarden too. However, our school requires bigger backpacks so they can fit their big notebooks in it. Plus these bags get stuffed with so much stuff - water bottle, lunch bag, snow pants, various clothes that get shed throughout the day, books, paper, toys, etc. A bigger backpack would probably be more practical. I'm inspired by your wonderful gesture!

Those backpacks are cute. I would say they would be good for that age as long as their lunch pail, water bottle etc fits. On occasion my kids have brought large sized library books that fit in the backpack but meh no big deal.
Glad you think about the quality of the children's items. Many times people just think about the price and the quality isn't there. Some children will love their trendy backpacks filled with love they may not have had otherwise.
