SDM optimum RBC mastercard discontinued?

I've received a letter in the mail from rbc advising they have decided to end the co-branded credit card program. It will be replaced by rbc cash back MasterCard.

Has anyone received notice that the credit card is being discontinued? I thought we would be advised earlier or a smartcanucker would post something about this.

I recieved the same notice today. I doubt I will keep it. RBC is not my regular bank and I currently use the SDM card like never since I got my new world elite MC.

No, but I have a feeling they will replace the Optimum with PC point program. I will cancel my card since I already have 1 cash back card from RBC (it's my old Target M/C).

Maybe SDM will go to another bank? First I had the Optimum card with CIBC - and then wasn't there another bank that had the Optimum card before RBC got it? Was it MBNA?

That would make sense... Ugh, I usually get poor service with them - one of the reasons I don't really use my PC MC.

I got the letter yesterday and called today. I already have a CB card and they are giving me an additional 3% on groceries effective June 15 for 3 months. From what I understand, when you receive a CB card because of the Optimum MC being cancelled, that card will also give you an extra 3% on groceries if you honor the make your first purchase by X date (in January 2017 sometime, I think).

However, the RBC MC rep wasn't clear if you already have a CB card if they will send you a second one or just cancel it.

Please check the details for your situation as YMMV. I believe it's $25 min before you can cashout your CB rewards.

Just to clarify - I think for those who will get the CB card for the first time, you'll have 5% off on groceries for something like the first 3 months.If you already have a CB card, you should be getting 5% back as of June 15 using your existing CB card for 3 months. This is what the MC rep told me. I'll post if I hear differently - please do the same!

May I suggest PC Financial? My favourite MC.

Yes, it does. You get 1% cashback for everything on silver MC.
2% cashback for shopping at loblaws banner stores and at sdm, 1% for everything else if you have world MC ( black card).
3% cashback for shopping at loblaws banner stores and at sdm, 1% for everything else if you their wolrd elite MC (again ablack card but it's elite card).

Don't worry about income threshold for this card. Just play the "already a loyal banking customer" card and ask for an upgrade to this elite card.
You also get 3% cashback for gas fillups at any loblaws banner gas stations, plus 7 cents per litre cashback.
