No, walls won't help because the people attacking us are already in our borders, often our own citizens.
And I am ok with the Syrians - we have a load of them here now. Was on the bus the other day and saw a bunch playing cricket in the park. Knew they were recent immigrants because the women were in burkas while the humidex was at 40. But, credit to Canada for providing an environment for a mixed-sex game.
Saw another on a the bus...a woman with her three kids who was insisting that her husband must pay for everything. Bus driver had to tell her that she had to do the dirty work in his absence. She barely spoke English but the kids were amazingly fluent (and seemed to be more canny in general about the process of riding a bus) and the bus driver was negotiating with an 8 year old to direct her mother... A bit of a comedy, but these people are experiencing massive culture shock. I kinda think now that the women wear their burkas here so they don't get overwhelmed with too much interaction. It's gotta be really, really hard.

Moving into a new country is daunting even when the culture is very similar.Adding a language barrier can make integration much harder where the culture is different.

Edmonton university student confirmed dead in truck attack in France
MacEwan University said in a release that Mykhaylo Bazelevskyy, who was 22 and also went by the first name Misha, was among those who died July 14 in Nice.
The school said confirmation of his death came late Tuesday from French authorities and from his family.
"Few, if any of us, can comprehend the senselessness of what occurred in Nice," school president David Atkinson said is a statement. “There is no greater loss to a university than a student who has so much life and promise ahead of him."
Bazelevskyy — who was in the School of Business — had permanent resident status in Canada, but was travelling on a Ukrainian passport. His parents still live in Ukraine, but his brother and sister-in-law live in Edmonton.
He was one of five MacEwan students, who, along with a faculty member, were participating in a three-week entrepreneurship and innovation training program offered by the European Innovation Academy.
On the night of the attack, the group of MacEwan students was heading to the Promenade des Anglais to enjoy Bastille Day fireworks, but inclement weather convinced three of them to turn back.
Bazelevskyy and another student were on the promenade when the truck plowed into the crowd and chaos ensued.
No one else in the MacEwan group was hurt.
