Seems it's a right-wing extremist who said "f*** foreigners" before he started firing.
It's also the 5th anniversary of the Anders Breivik attack.
Witnesses said otherwise

According to one witness he shouted "Allahu Akbar"
A lot of reports are contradictory so lets wait and see
deaths rise to eight

a ninth body may be a gunman

My husband has a sister in Germany, I know where they live (an hour away from Munich), but not where there adult children live with their families elsewhere in the country -
Prayers for the families of the dead and injured.

I've been following the Guardian live feed https://www.theguardian.com/world/li...ng-centre-live and it seems there is not a lot of information coming out.
(EDIT: I actually wrote this post because they had raised the death toll to 10, so there, there's something.)
A big mystery on who has been behind this - only CNN reported the Allahu Akbar claim it seems and the European media is focussing on the cursing against foreigners.
The gunman on the roof of the parkade had a verbal battle with someone and he yelled that he was German and that he came from the welfare district...I wonder if it is a second-generation Muslim because that would fit the pattern of other ISIL attacks.
I have even checked out the big paper in Munich http://www.sueddeutsche.de/ and there is not much detail there.
I hope things become clearer soon.
The police are going to hold a news conference at 2 am (8 pm EST)
The shooter is dead
lecale, DW always has good coverage

From the Guardian:
Quote:
The attacker was an 18-year-old German of Iranian descent. His body was found at 8:30pm local time, having shot himself.
There were 10 dead, including the attacker, police say, and 21 wounded.
The gunman had lived in Munich for a long time, police chief Hubertus Andra tells the press conference, and had no previous criminal record.
