I think it is a fantastic deal if you shop the promotions and coupons. Last night I bought about $90 worth of stuff, including tax. After reductions for 2 VIB coupons, manager's special reductions, 2 Aveeno online coupons for $5 each (no longer available), 21,000 worth of points awarded, and a gas card voucher for spending over $75.00 (value about $17.50), I paid the equivalent of about twenty dollars for the lot. For that $20.00 I got 2 Aveeno body washes, 2 lotions, 2 Lindt chocolate bars, 3 Garnier Whole Blends shampoos, Huggies wipes, 4 tubs cottage cheese, 2 blocks cheddar, 2 pre made salads, eggs, and 2 litres milk. It takes time to plan it, and you have to watch the monitor on the cash to make sure everything scans properly and the sticker discounts are applied, but I find that searching out the savings is enjoyable...I just have to be careful not to buy things I don't need to top up that $75 minimum.

I love my 20x points on milk lately. Double that with a 20 x when you spend offer. You can't beat it.

SDM has confirmed on Facebook that they do not have any immediate plans to terminate the optimum program.

SDM is worth it for 20 X events, only if you have enough coupons to bring the OOP down. Otherwise its hard to reach their minimum spend of $ 75 and only the 20X points are not worth it, due to the high SDM prices.

I would say if the minimum spend is $ 75 , you should at least have $ 25 in coupons if not more , bringing the OOP to $ 50 and then 20 X points on the entire $ 75.

Plus some of the $ 75 spend should be groceries like bread, eggs, milk etc. otherwise you will end up buying expensive unnecessary things just to make the $ 75, and that's exactly what SDM wants.

I rarely spend more than $30 at a time at SDM. The 8k on $30 is 27X, much better than spending $75 for only 20X.

While having coupons does make the deal sweeter, even without them, the 20x events can be worth it, if one is paying attention to prices. While most regular prices at SDM are high, they have some great sale prices. Some of the sale prices at SDM are better than the sale prices at other stores. And if you happen to have personalized points offers on some items in your order, the points value is even higher.

20X the points gives you 40% worth of product on a bonus redemption of 50K points. 40%! That's extraordinary value.

    20X on $75 is 15k worth $18.75 which is 25% bonus

    I'll explain my math

    Earning the points:
    20X on $50 = 10,000 points
repeat 5 times, earn 50K points

    Redeeming the points:
bonus redemption: 50K points = $100 worth of products
    10,000 points = $20 worth of products

earned that $20 worth of products with $50 OOP, so equals 40% value.

I usually use the 8k on $30 + 10X on milk together, 8,400 pts, 6 purchases to make it to $50

    OOP $180, 47% value on 50k = 85 and 56% value on 50k = $100.

It is much more lucrative to use the lower threshold points offers.

Totally agree. The 8K on $30 and the 3K on $10 are my favorites and I use them when I get them. Sadly, I don't get them as often now as I did a year ago.

I was simply pointing out that the 20X offers do have value, even without coupons, as a poster above said those are only worthwhile with coupons to bring down OOP.

Oh there's no doubt that there is value every time you shop at SDM!

My argument is the big mistake people make is only taking part in the big promotions where you have to lay out $75 and only redeeming for $170 (or not redeeming at all).

I only average $1.55 back per 1k points (e.g., 50k = $100 is $2/1k) but I can never find $85 or $170 worth of goods that are on sale so the actual value is less than $2/1k in that case.

My strategy is to redeem at 22k-50k and to earn on > $30. And you can do it, and can make more points than you would making mega purchases all the time.

Just trying to open people's minds to lower threshold purchases.

The 8K on $ 30 is a personalised loaded offer, very few people get that and you have to be really lucky to get that.

The 20 X is more generic and open to everyone.

I get it frequently because I only do small shops.

Exactly the 8K and 3K offer and any other good personalised offer is a matter of luck. Very few people get that and those who get the good offers are lucky. Rest have to wait for the 20X on $ 75, not that great but atleast open to everyone.

The 20X flyer offer is actually wus $50, not $75. The $75 flyer offer is usually for 18.5K points, which is almost 25X. So the spend threshold for 20X points while not realistic for some, is more achievable than the $75 one. I rarely spend $75 outside of a redemption, but $50 do more often.
