I recently purchased a used Ford Escape and it only came with one key (1pc key/fob) and I'd really like to get a spare. Was wondering if my best bet would be the Ford dealership or an automotive locksmith.

Update: The dealer still had my 2nd set of keys so I picked those up this afternoon.

My wife has a escape and lost one of hers a while ago. She priced one at ford a while back and they told her it would be close to $300 for a replacement. Not cheap.
I am interested if you come up with a cheaper solution as we have not purchased a replacement yet.

I had a similar situation but it is a 2015 Lincoln. The car dealership wanted $400. I purchased 2 additional keys online from "ReplaceMyRemote"
Then I went to the dealership with the keys and they coded them. It cost us just under $250 for the 2 replacements.

I thought I saw those key remotes listed on our local police auction website. I imagine if you could get a Ford one, you could take it to the dealership and they could switch out the key.

Update: The dealer still had my 2nd set of keys so I picked those up this afternoon.

I did phone a couple of places this morning to find out prices.
The local Ford dealer wanted $300 + tax. They said the key itself is $225 and they order it from the US. The remaining cost is cutting the key and programming the fob.
Pop-A-Lock (Auto locksmith) wanted $225 + tax for the 1pc key/fob but they said they could cut a key without the fob. That was about $130 + tax.
Home Hardware carries Duracell keys and fobs. Their 1pc key/fob is $149. Fobs are $19.99. You'd have to check with a dealer or locksmith for cutting/programming. Unfortunately you'd have to already have two sets of keys in order to program a fob yourself.

A four year old post on another forum suggested Partsource. I hadn't gotten around to phoning them. Sounds like it could be the key w/o the fob.
