Hi Folks! I'm more than a little late checking in, actually I did yesterday and after my wonderful composition was done I found myself booted out! @avoncallingu I hope that your procedures went well and that you're just taking good care of yourself. @Natalka I'm sorry to hear about your friend and companion.Often they're nicer than some people and so it hits you harder. I'm sorry too about your continued health problems and the trials you're having with them.I do hope and pray that better days are ahead for you.
As for me, I'm dealing with my own health issues but I continue to remind myself that it could always be worse and so I do what I can. Easier said than done at times.
Well kids I need to sign off or I won't be able to sleep tonight.Enjoy the rest of your evening!Always remember the What are you thankful for today? thread as there always is something to be thankful for.

Pretty difficult to "like" your post, @Thatdone . I just noticed your "location"...not far enough north. So true these days for a variety of reasons.
My Hubby and I did smoke in our youth, I quit when we wanted to start a family, he quit when we did. I picked it up once again many years later, but stopped that nonsense pretty quickly. Never took it up again thank Heavens!
It's such an ugly habit....and those suave millennial ads made it look so sexy. What were we thinking?!

I started smoking when I worked at a summer camp when I was 16. They sold cigarettes at the camp tuck shop. I did it because I was shy and wanted to meet people. It took me many years of trying to quit. Over the years we stopped smoking in the car, basement of our home but it really did make everything smell and look dingy. I finally quit last February on Family Day. One DD in particular is so happy that I finally succeeded. I've been putting the money I would've spent into a health account to pay for gym,dental/eye glasses etc. (well after I treated myself to a new ukelele and Seagull Merlin dulcimer first) DH still smokes but he's cut back a lot which is good.

When I first saw that photo of the kid blowing out the candles I wanted to wretch!
@Thatdone my heart sunk at your environment at home with both parents as smokers.
Still, that would be your normal, how would any of us kids know what the second hand smoke was doing to our young lungs?
I'm reminded of a button I wore faithfully for many years that said " Kissing a smoker is like licking an ashtray ", and was I ever smug about wearing that.
Being an avid warrior and member of the NSRA, I tried to get my employer to ban smoking in the workplace ( seems like a million years ago now ), but it was back in the early 80's.
In the " good old boys club " workplace I was viewed as that bi*otch trying to change things....can't have that right? Much harassment occurred but I kept pressing.
Eventually the laws caught up with the reality of the effects of second hand smoke. What a glorious time that was, to be able to breathe while working.
However......long before that when I was in grade 9, I somehow got my hands on some menthol cigarettes.
I was still very new to it and my HS boyfriend at that time, ( who had never smoked ) said as he watched me smoking....." you look like you're in pain when you take a drag off of that thing ".
Here I thought I was impressing him with how cool I looked! ha ha
His words cut deep and it took sitting in front of a mirror and watching my face as I smoked for me to realize that I sure as heck did not enjoy this!
So that was my only venture down that road....thank goodness.
I never smoked again.
To any and all of you who have tried as many times as it took to quit, I applaud you.
I know now it is an insidious addiction to conquer.Last edited by walkonby; Fri, Jan 8th, 2021 at 05:28 PM.
