@jasperandchar: Thank you for the suggestions. I think I've been handed opinions on raising children the moment it was obvious I was pregnant, so I know people are bound to make judgments. I probably would raise an eyebrow myself at the way things are now, but I've had three years to observe the persistence of DD1.

Tonight marks the first night of wearing long socks on her hands. I don't really have a negative opinion of that as DD2 wore scratch mitts for the first month of her life. To me, wearing socks is just an extension of it. DH gave her until this weekend to stop. Last night, she screamed for me four or five times between 3 and 4 AM. On one of those occasions, she told me she needed to wash her hands. When she showed me her hands, I saw blood smeared across both, some with drops of blood running down to her wrist.

We'll see if the long socks work. I tucked her socks into her sleeves, and she screamed and cried tonight in protest. We've promised her that we'll take them off when she's healed up, but I'm almost considering 21 days of it (as they say 21 days make a habit) if this does not work. The duct tape was to tape the socks to her sleeves so they could not be removed, which sounded like baby scratch mitts to me. The other alternative was to sew a pair of mittens to her pajamas, but I can't think where to find a sewing needle or thread is at the moment. I don't sew but I used to keep them around for my mother to do quick fixes.

I have asked her why she does what she does, and she's told me on several occasions that she "doesn't know". She's also said that she can't stop. She's quite content at doing her time outs for lying about whether or not she's been making herself bleed now.

She refuses stuffed animals in her room ever since she's been 1.5 years. Her asthma specialist told her no stuffed animals in her crib and best if none in her room so she's even rejected them near her cot at daycare.

I can only guess that she's trying to get attention now with the new baby. She used to want attention from me, but after about 18 months, she has been all over Daddy and practically ignores me whenever he is in the room. She knows that he can pick her up and swing her about like I cannot, he shows her the videos and TV and gives her the candy that I only let her have in moderation. DH grew up as the last of four children and had no boundaries while growing up, while I'm probably the opposite (though I am also the last of four).

On the weekends, she practically monopolizes his time, and I am free to feed and change the baby, do all the grocery shopping and run all the errands. Daddy is her absolute favourite playmate and there is no one else during the week that can come by on a regular basis.

She can read independently since before she was 3.5, and I only found out by accident when we were at a friend's place, where she picked up a book that she had never seen before. I thought she was memorizing all the books at home. She cannot sound words out yet, though she knows what each letter sounds like and I have been teaching her long and short vowels, what contractions are, etc. Luckily, reading gives her something she can do while I am feeding or changing the baby, or doing things like preparing lunch, but it does mean that I have to get new library books every few weeks.

So, sometimes she can entertain herself alone and I think she is coping very well with the new baby. Other times, I think she must be feeling a bit neglected because Mommy is busy with "her" baby.

@jasperandchar: I'm not sure if she is intelligent or not as she is our first, though it is kind of you to say so. I know I read fluently before kindergarten, and another close friend has a strong reader at five, and another friend has a girl who knew all her letters before the age of two. I'm not even sure if language has any indication of intelligence, just as early potty training doesn't. She's just my little sweetheart. Beyond that, I don't know if she's meeting any milestones as I have no long-term experience with young children.

8 more days until Daylight Savings Time is in effect. You may wish to spring ahead on chores this weekend and have a relaxing weekend next week to adjust to the time change. Have done some hand laundry and towel loads in the washer. May rethink getting fast fashion again for a deal because my pink t-shirt releases a lot of dye each washing. My two undershirts have pink underarms. Have noticed my navy socks from China have some dye release but it's not too dark. Good reason to test colourfastness by handwashing new or secondhand finds by hand in the desired temperature of water and see what happens.

I roasted a second pan of root vegetables with cauliflower (no seasonings or oil) and also added peeled and sliced ginger just to see what happens. The ginger gave off a slightly pine smell and looked like cooked pork sausage but looking at the grains of the ginger almost suggests cooked chicken. 1/3 less strong flavour but I won't roast ginger again. Wanted to use up the 3 inch section I had in the crisper as I bought a tray of reduced price ginger and will see how best to put them to use. Still have enough chopped vegetables for a third smaller batch!

Waxed paper roll is almost done so definitely time to visit Sobeys for some deals and get bonus Air Miles in expectation of a $10 redemption later this month. Hard to believe I bought the roll in June 2016-was certain it was August. $3 McCain Marche less $1 off coupon suggests freezer deal! Hope to find the Red Hots for $3 too.

I like the texture of All Bran bars so I had a package for breakfast with some other food. Read the nutrition label. Only 2g of protein per two bars but lots of manganese? I can do better with protein from hemp seeds! Guess I will have to skip future All Bran bar deals because I need the protein (so does my skin).

Will entertain you all with 10 uses for dryer sheets later!

Yes, my brother was correct in saying that Fortino's Natural foods section has the MH hemp bites (all three flavours). They are pegged and hanging by the protein powder product shelves. $5.99!

Going to take boys to our arena to watch their coach play in a hockey tournament. But 1st a quick lunch. A burger with cut up cucumber and apples. Then a strawberry/coconut smoothie to take to arena. That should keep them full till dinner. Roast is in oven. Fridge cleaned out. Will go shopping tomorrow.

    Evening everyone,
@sweet sparrow it's great that your dd1 loves to spend time with your dh, gives you as you said time to do what you have to or can.

Well I ventured into Costco alone (dh was too sore to wander around) so that probably saved me a $100 (haha). Anyways I stocked up on a few things but was very diligent with my calculator to figure out the costs/portions. I think I did rather well.

I got 8 whole chickens at $1.88lbs at Loblaws, so we're set for 2 months.

Value Village was a bust nothing that ds1 would have liked. We'll drop his coat off during March break and get it fixed at the seamstress.

Did really well at SDM got my mom her expensive perfume and tons of groceries spent $140 and got 31K in points so very pleased.

Chicken tonight is deli chicken from Costco with fresh buns.

    Wishing everyone a great evening.

Dinner was so good! My honey is in the kitchen making a surprise treat for all of us. Doing laundry still. Putting it away as it dries. Last load of white going in soon. Kitchen is clean from dinner. Tupperware container made for teen that wasn't home. Just a bit of beef left for DS'S lunch Monday.

We got our house on Wednesday. Started our renos with bf ripping out the carpet in the living room and hallway. I spent several hours taking nails and screws and socket covers off the walls and taping all frames in the future craft room and our bedroom. I also changed every single Light bulb in the house to led. Over the last couple days. Today i finished the light bulbs and edged the walls in the bedroom. Bf painted them after me.

Weve advertised the flooring in the kitchen and someone is coming for it tomorrow evening and will help take it out. I plan to do the second coat on our room or do the taping screw removal and mudding of our bathroom.

Each trip we make over we pack a few armloads of stuff. So far we have towels bedding some coats and some kitchen stuff over there. 2 kitchen chairs a laddrr 2 couches and our foot stools as well.

I'm befuddled. LO loves her new "scratch mitts" and will hold out her hands before each nap for them. She's quite proud of the fact that she's no longer making herself bleed anymore.

On the grocery budget, I had a few failings. On my main shop, I was able to talk myself out of a few purchases. At SDM, I did buy eggs and bread that I didn't need, just because of the price and I had a coupon. I spent $60.92 and I'm a bit disappointed. After redeeming $20 in PC points and applying a $0.25 rebate, it's still $40.67. On the cooking front, we baked two lasagnes tonight and used the cheese and meat from the freezer cleanout - win! I'm looking forward to clearing out more meats and vegetables from our little freezer over the next months.

Getting up and going shopping alone which I am happy about. Love that my man likes to shop with me but it makes it hard when I want to buy something for him. Kids are sleeping. They can fend for themselves for breakfast. Leftover burgers for lunch. Have a great day everyone.

I had a super productive day yesterday. I had to work yesterday as it turns out the work I did last weekend was wrong, kind of annoyed at my self, I looked at those files a hundred times and I never noticed that program did not pull in our product codes. I was aware the codes were not sorting properly but made the choice to let that go to complete the project. So I spent pretty much all of Friday working with our IT company to get things exactly how we wanted it and it came down the last second, the programmer had to leave at 5 and we go it to work at 4:52. So yesterday I needed to re run all of the files and download them to our website.

Well I was doing this I had to be close to my computer so I decided to clean and tidy up around the house. I did all of the laundry as well as the bedding, I also cleaned the kitchen. The I decided to tackle the living room, Mom purchased 2 metal carts from her work to hold out craft supplies in the living room as we will never be able to craft in the basement (the owners before us put a marble floor directly on cement so even in summer with shoes on it is too cold to stand on) so I built these and started sorting stuff. I know Mom will have to re do her cart as it is not organized but at least it is in one place and not in various bags around the room.

I also starting taking other craft supplies down the basement, things we are not using and working on as these things will still need to be stored in the basement. I tidied up the laundry room as we moved everything when the washer broke and flooded the basement and moved it again when we defrosted the freezer but it was never really put back properly and our stuff was taking up too much room so I reorganized it to give myself more room.

Today I need to first find my ambition, then I need to make about 50 trips to the dumpster. Yesterday I filled 2 bags with garbage, 2 boxes with paper, plus we already had a box of paper to go out plus a box of boxes. Also need to decide what is for dinner, Mom said she is going to be home for dinner.

Okay well off to drink some tea and find my ambition, have a wonderful day everyone.

well daughter/hubby and Sebastian just left at noon such a lovely visit
-I just got a code for 40% off and an extra 10% too as I shop the gap a lot -so I asked daughter if she needed a few clothing items for Sebastian and she said yes so I paid for them and she will pay me back (just to save her the 50%)
-I may venture out to a local store and back
