I truly doubt SONY manufactures Android boxes. Most Android boxes are made by unknown China-based companies.

wonder how long it will last, i tend to only get a few months before they die, but at 55 it's worth it.

I paid $49 two years ago for a generic Android box from Amazon.ca and it's still going strong. Anything is better than paying those outrageous cable fees.

Is that similar to this Android TV box?

i also got a 50-$ android box from amazon...it worked ok for about a yr, now kodi has a newer version so i cant install that (box version is old)
& kodi is the only way i watch movies..... On my laptop i have "LeonFlix" which is decent.

i was up till 3am trying to figure it out. so...can anyone recomend an android box that wont become Obsolete?

Search Google for "INSTALL KODI 17 KRYPTON ON ANDROID 4.4.2 / 4.4.4 KITKAT Android TV Box MXQ, MX3, MX Pro & Many More" and you'll find a YouTube video on how to install the latest version of KODI on older Android boxes. It works :)

My Android box is still alive and kicking.

i tried that...apparently my android box is too old or out of date . ;-(

its OTT TV box android 5.1 64 bit.

Don't buy any box with 5.1. 6 Or higher and make sure you have 2GIG of ram. Make experience worth while. Don't cheap.

And get a vpn.

The box mentioned in this thread is from March 2017. I wouldn't consider it even as a paperweight.....technology has advanced a lot, so there are far better boxes now.
