Live in Ajax, but have been to Oshawa many times before, have a friend that lives in the North end near the airport (Stevenson & Rossland), the area is a lot nicer there than the south end of town he says. His brother goes to Monsignor Paul Dwyer Catholic High (Just Dwyer for short) and he says it is a decent school. Downtown isn't the most ideal area, and the area around the GM plant is sorta the same. Once again, this is all from my friends point of view, he did grow up there for part of his life, move to Ajax, then moved back a few years ago.

I agree. Oshawa North.
But the house prices are cr-a-z-y right now.
Also, Taunton road is notorious for accidents.

I live in the South. There are some very lovely small pockets of homes where the community is tight. And then there are the not so good areas. Choose carefully. Tell your real estate agent buyer your concerns. Some of the schools in the south are okay and a couple are just bad. You can private message me if you want. There are pockets in the north that have some petty crime so talk to the police. They were really helpful in helping my friend find her home. (She is a block away from me in the south). FYI- Be aware that the taxes are highest in the region as well, if you didn't already know.
