Thread: Hiliner Tilapia

Have bought Tilapia from Hiliner a few times but this time it has a horrible taste. I'll never buy it again, as 3 of us shared the same package of Tilapia and all agreed on the horrible taste. It does not taste of rot. It tastes like it grew up in a cramped & dirty bog. All 3 of us feel entirely sick to our stomachs 30 minutes after eating only a few bites.

I've always thought that tilapia tastes earthy which is why I rarely eat it.

Tilapia are mainly freshwater fish inhabiting shallow streams, ponds, rivers and lakes and less commonly found living in brackish water, so I am not surprised people find they taste 'earthy.' Living on the East Coast of Canada where seafood is relatively cheap, I haven't had to eat tilapia.

oh that sounds dreadful @PreciousBlue , so glad we never eat the stuff. I think we tried it once and were not impressed even though I cannot recall an earthy taste. Cod and Basa are the 2 kinds we enjoy the most.
