    Good morning!

Hope everyone has a great last day to the week - we had lovely thunderstorms all last evening, may have more today. We badly needed the rain!

I feel quite like a shut in since the heat began. Once a week, I take the kids across the street for a craft event, but otherwise, I feel trapped in the house. The temperature feels like 30C by 9 AM and on the days where there is a slight wind, there always seems to be rain looming in the forecast.

Once, I took both to the playground around the corner when weathernetwork.com said there was no rain expected for the next three hours. The radar forecast indicated otherwise. DD1 wanted to try anyways. The first droplets hit when we were at the end of our street and DD1 wanted to play for two minutes. We didn't even make it to the entrance when the clouds burst open and it rained so hard, we were soaked to the skin within seconds. DD2 watched from inside the covered stroller while DD1 wailed. At least now, she doesn't hesitate when I tell her that rain is coming, we need to move.

We had to make a fourth trip to the bank to sort out DD2's RESPs. First time, I asked what I needed to bring and they failed to mention that both parents needed to sign. Returned a second time with DH. Returned a third time after I saw no account online after several weeks. No one had mentioned that we had filled out the wrong/outdated form. Returned a fourth time because despite the paperwork saying the money was to be deposited into a money market fund, the answers I gave to their risk assessment questionnaire put us in one of their managed portfolios with a nice management fee. When I saw the money online, I noticed that we lost $17 being in the managed portfolio before I had even decided what to do with the money. To top it off, DH, being the money adverse person he is, is cursing investing their RESPs at all by this point. I pointed out that DD1's went through without issues years ago, but that doesn't matter.

There is a notice in my inbox saying that I can't move the money as planned. It doesn't fit in with my risk allocation. Sometimes, I feel like asking what answers on this questionnaire will let me do this? Grrrr!!!

While we were there, they handed DD1 an activity booklet to play with. She was reading aloud and I was amused when she was able to pronounce "overspending" and "budget" correctly.

Tomorrow, we plan on making a trip to Giant Tiger. DD1 fully expects to see giant tigers (plural!). I can practically feel the disappointment already. Oh to be three again!

Oh Sweet Sparrow, me and banks do not get along when it comes to investing.

I went in for something, nothing to do with investing but they asked me to speak to my financial adviser within the bank and silly me I spoke with her and she did an assessment which made no sense. I had literally just finished school with no debit (yippee) but literally no money to my name, living pay cheque to pay cheque trying to rebuild my savings and they wanted to sign me up to invest over half of my monthly income. I pointed out if I invested that much each month I would not be able to pay my monthly bills and her response is this is what the computer says and how high tech the program was and it knew I could make it work. I walked out investing nothing.

Second time I went in, all they updated was my incoming income but did not change the fact that I just within the last year gotten and new car (so obviously did not need a new car) plus within the last 2 months I had purchased a home (so obviously not looking to purchase a home) so they keep discussing with me Car Loans and Mortgages even though neither were needed (had a mortgage and my car was purchased outright) but again they kept telling me well the computer says, the computer says and then all of a sudden her manager comes in with papers and tells me to sign.
    I ask what I signing
    Her response your investments
I ask what they are doing for me
Her answer what the computer says to do
I tell her the computer is wrong
She gets mad and says just sign it, that I have gone over my allotted appointment and this needs to be wrapped up now or I have wasted their time.
    So I walked out

Now this part made me laugh that financial adviser never contacted me again but last year I apparently got a new one within the branch who phoned me and apparently had all of these plans for me. She gave me a call tried to book an appointment with me. I said I wasn't interested and she pushed saying how I needed investments and finally I said I have investments but with another bank. All of a sudden she had to go and would call me later, I have never heard from her again.

I have the bank I use for the my day to day banking but most other "stuff" is with the bank my work uses. The bank my work uses has taken the time multiple times to sit down with me discuss where I am, where I am going, what if anything has changed for me financially, they explain everything and will not only go over what their system says I should do but other options in case I feel the system did not make the right choices for me. So they got my business.

Good afternoon. Today is a lazy day (mostly) since it's likely going to rain again. I will have to do laundry and use the dryer today, using the line a lot lately and my hydro bill was the lowest I've seen it! We've also been turning off the ac at night.
Today has been a week that I quit smoking, I have been putting my smoking money in a jar and will keep doing it until I have enough for something great or I'm broke. lol I already treated myself to some new sandals online (Dawgs-great deals on the website) and some concert tickets. There was a great deal on the tickets so even after all the extra fees (more than most concerts) it was still under $100 for two of us. After recent deaths in rock I have vowed not to miss a concert I really want to see- you never know if you'll get the chance again. @SassyAshley that sounds so crazy- glad you didn't invest with them!

IMHO the banks are often more interested in selling you the products that make $ for them and this business of filling in risk assessments every time you turn around is ridiculous and designed to cover them-again my opinion. I have often refused to tell them my income etc-really none of their business. I just trust my own gut re any investments I make and sometimes I just find it easier to buy a GIC online-the online banks never ask me to fill in all that nonsense re my risk assessment. I realize GIC's on average, have a lower rate of return but at my age I really do not want to risk my prinicipal and would rather have a lesser amount of guaranteed prinipal and interest and sleep at night. Of course everyone's situation is different and each person must make the best decision for them-rather than the bank!

    avrose congrats on quitting smoking

Lizzie not sure about other banks but I know mine has "contest" internally, example this month might be GICs so whoever has the most new invested in GIC "wins" a prize, usually some sort of trip or cash pay out. When I learned this I understood a lot more about my bank and only made me realize I made the best choice not investing with them, it isn't about the person there.

With that being said I only stayed there as my Mom has her accounts there so made it easy for house related stuff but we have actually discussed both of switching banks and I think this is something we will investigate more in September as August is looking a bit insane for both of us.

Great prices on produce this week plus 4000 PC PTS wus $20. Came home and prepped the food for the next few days. Cut up a watermelon, washed cheeries and grapes. Made a salad for my work lunch tomorrow. Boiled eggs for snacks.

Dinner is done and kitchen is clean. We made chicken, rice and grilled veggies. Was really good. Added sliced cucumbers to DS's plate and he ate every bite.

    Good Evening Everyone,
I took last Thursday and Friday off work as Mom was on vacation. Plus I felt I needed to recover a little bit from work, we had an issue with one of our branches and some how I ended up in the middle plus we had employee reviews so needless to say my stress level and anxiety was super high and I was just emotionally drained.

Thursday we headed down to Toronto and on the way back did some shopping. We went to Ikea were we got a few kitchen gadgets, a new slash guard for out frying pan, a new smaller spider (still do not get how they got that name) as ours is larger and hard to use on smaller jobs. Well we were there we also found a new couch and chair we like. As well as a new wall unit for our dinning room. One huge downfall in this house is there is very little storage and since the walls are all concrete it makes it hard to screw into them so our best options are free standing pieces. Now we just have to save up for them.

We then hit numerous kitchen stores looking for a new oil spray pump, our old one fell apart and I did not realize until it broke how often we use it. It took 4 stores but we finally found one that was well made but did not have a ridiculous price tag.

Friday we just went out locally. We thought about going somewhere different but we really needed to go to Costco and all of the other places we were looking at going to did not have a Costco so we would have had to come back this way anyways. At Costco we mainly got items we normally buy at Costco but were on sale plus a few other things that are cheaper at Costco.

We then went to Lowe's to look for a new Kitchen faucet. The salesperson at Lowe's said the tap we currently have has a lifetime warranty so we should be able to get it replaced for free so Mom will call tomorrow and see if we can get it replaced. If so we can allot that money to something else.

We then went clothes shopping, not something I enjoy lately but was much needed as I was running out of pants, all of mine were dying. They had a sale on and I got 3 pairs of pants and 3 tops for $158, not sure exactly how much I saved I will add that up tomorrow but one top alone I bought was originally $100.

We then went and bought our veggies at the Chinese Market. I love there Marked Down Racks as I find the produce still has life in it at a great price. We got:
    Massive Cantaloupe $2
    Pint Blueberries $1
Trays of Snow Peas $2 regular $6
    Lettuce 2 for $1.00

Although we have been talking about watching what we eat it has not really happened yet so as of tomorrow no more excuses. First step limiting take out. Lately my mood has been so horrible and it has been taking everything I had just to get through the day and most days I would announce I was not cooking and since I am the first one home it would lead to take out but no more.

With that being said I have decided I have to cut back at work. I know they know how much I do but I am not sure if they realize the time it takes to get all of this done. Recently I have felt like I am seriously under a microscope, I know some of it is in my own mind because when you know some people are watching and judging you, you feel a little on edge. I think because of all of this I am just feeling worn out emotionally, constantly stressed out and it is starting to set off my anxiety so I have to do what is right for me right now and step back a little bit. So that is my goal, no working outside of office hours, sound so easy but last time I tried this it last 2 days before a drop everything have this in first thing in the morning project came in. So we will see.

Longer post then I was planning. Hope everyone has a wonderful night.

We just picked this up for free, I'm having some trouble getting the picture to load. It's a Little Tikes Pirate play house. A lady posted it and had it waiting in her yard for whoever arrived first. Dh was the first to arrive, but he had to drive across town to get it. Our son is thrilled, the other kids will be surprised in the morning.

Angela: that is an awesome freebie. The kids will love it.
Sassy: you are wise to step back and care for yourself. Life is too short.
I am totally back into savings mode. Today I taught the older son how to take advantage of his PC plus offers. He downloaded the app on his own. I paid for the groceries but he earned 25000 points on his card. I will use them later to shop siince he was able to get some treats in the shopping trip he said the postings would pay for a future grocery trip.
We had some crappy news this week that means we all need to stay on top of the frugal game. But thankfully it's a lifestyle choice for us so we will be fine. The crappy news is DH has been downsized. I am grateful for my incredibly secure job even if it makes me crazy sometimes. Also so happy we saved for the kitchen so that debt is not hanging over our head and we are all loving the new space. The older teen has cooked at least 6 meals already. Totally worth the investment😀
Friends don't let real friends pay full price.

GOod evening. I did a bit of prepping today too. We got two big bags of mushrooms with pink stickers so I cooked them all up to freeze. After using some for one meal we have enough for 6 more. We also went to No Frills because they had 4 packs of Nestle chocolate bars on for $1 and peanut butter M&M's (bowl size)for $2. So I spent $70 lol but got 2000 bonus pc points. 53 packs of bars and 5 bags of M&M's!

Happy Monday! Wasn't too bad returning to work after being away for 9 days. Almost caught up on emails and mail! Will be able to start my other regular stuff this afternoon.

Cloudy dark day here all morning but the rain hasn't started yet. Wish it would just get it over with. Tonight I should do something productive. Maybe I will post some things for sale from the spare room so I can get that stuff out of there. Will bring a few Rubbermaid bins down to the tv room and get started while watching tv and relaxing tonight.

Hope everyone has a great day!
