    Hi All

We are moving to a new province - well actually moving back to the one from which I originated - but a different city (after 20 years being away)

We are presently dealing with a small local credit union - so that has got to change. We are moving to Ontario and the credit unions don't seem to be quite as prolific as they are in BC

We are seniors - looking for a bank/credit union with no fees for chequing and hopefully a little bonus as new customers

    Any suggestions

I am already a customer of Tangerine and Canadian Direct as online banks - but I really think we need to have a bank with a physical presence.

    Thank you for your thoughts

I would suggest Meridian Credit Union. They have a relatively major presence in the province and there are ATM's everywhere that you can access (The Exchange Network), they have a Seniors Chequing Account ($0 fee) with Unlimited transactions, free cheque order (per year), free paper statement, 4 free bank drafts/month, free certified cheques. They do have a bonus offer going on until June 7th in which you open a High Interest savings account, deposit $1,000 and get a $100 bonus.

Personally, I don't trust the Big 5 banks anymore, I bank with Meridian and PC Financial exclusively now

I also use PC Financial. I do have a Credit Union account as well. I basically pay $3/month in fees for 1 transaction.

Yes Meridian Credit Union is very good. Much better than the Big 5.

Go for their Senior Chequing Account if you are a senior. Details below.

First Ontario CU is fairly expansive in Ontario. The coin counting machine at the Lime Ridge Mall (Hamilton) location is free to all to use.

If you are a PC Financial customer, you know you can access the CIBC ATMs at all Loblaws/Fortinos/RCSS stores with their debit cards.

Thank you all - have just spent the better part of a week (with some of that being on the phone for Hours) with Meridian. Apparently, my address (where I have lived for 10 years) does not match up with what they have at Equifax - so if I would like to go into one of the branches (hello - that is why I am doing it online - I don't have a couple of thousand dollars to go there and fill in their forms BEFORE I move) and complete the application - they would like me to become a member.

Chaulk that up to a lesson learned - so I decided to work with First Ontario. Well...their online application opens up to a blank page - guess this week is going to be the First Ontario's time to shine.

I do have internet bank accounts - but found having one where one could go in if something was needed - works for me.

    Thank you to all

If you have not requested your free annual copy of your Equifax credit report, this is the time to get it and request the address correction. May be a goof on their end.

Have filled the form in - but since we are moving - thought I would wait til we have the new address in action. I do this (equifax and transunion) about once every 5 years. However, they only send a report NOT a rating.

If you are willing to pay the fee for the full report, you likely will see the rating. Think both reporting agencies only take CCs for online report orders if you want full reports.
